Guest guest
Dear andrew In the " scd not hard. " email you had said that rice, potatoes, wheat, etc should be removed. In that case what do you replace with ?? I already see improvement with gfcf but my son's craving for cheese scares me. Whenever he eats a bite of cheese toast he keeps on asking for cheese. I suspect it may be yeast problem. Do you know what is good anti yeast, anti parasite or anti bacterial suppliment? In one of your e-mails you suggested I give my son offal. Can you tell me what that is, and where I get it from. Sorry, but can you also tell me where I can get a good Magnesium Chelate and calcium ascorbate. Oh and by the way what is a good sugar replacement? Thanks, Seema
Guest guest
'Easy' is in the eye of the beholder - or the cook. A big reason that although SCD is more restrictive up front than GFCF but people trying both diets say 'SCD is easier and the food tastes much better' is because SCDers doesn't try to mimick non-approved foods. They just have recipes that make the most out of what *is* permitted. While many GFCFers are trying to paste together tapioca flour and other ingredients with xanthum gum and attempting to convince their child it really is an oreo cookie, SCDers just give all that up in. They are making the most of herbal chicken, nut flour muffins, and roasted vegetables. Interestingly, people doing Feingold also notice that food tastes better without so much artificial stuff and pre-processed food (and I noticed this as well). This makes food more satisfying too. The take- home message for those doing GFCF and unhappy with the food may be to look at recipes that don't seek to mimick gluten/casein foods...but go for those that make the best of the foods you are eating. . Guest guest
its best not to think in terms of sugar substitues but not cater to the 'need' for sweetness. a big mistake i notice on the scd board is that the moms fry too much squash etc, honesty if i ate the way they cook i would be ill. again i don't think in terms of replacing the excluded foods with anything but notice that fruits, offal(liver, brains, lung, pancreas, kidneys) fre range eggs, marrow bone fat, fruits, pumpkin etc more than provide enough variety. also i exclude homogenised milk and drink good quality organic milk and cream when i can get it. i do find adequate mineral supplementaion essential though, optizinc, mag chelate etc are important. zinc and magnesium are esp important with scd. i don't think you can make sense of the cheese thing while you are feeding the malign bacterial/yeast with the di and polysacarride sugars from corn, potatoes etc. betterlife.com or other online retailers are what i use, depends where you are. for offal again you just have to look around locally. nrth american herb and spice organol i find good, and recently have discovered that no fenol seems to work well as anti yeast on an enpty stomach first thing in the morning , but candex is good for this as well. zinc is such a huge help with yeast, you do need to take managnese occasionally with it though. > Dear andrew > > In the " scd not hard.
