Its called Pica. Many say zinc helps but it didn;t for my son :( Sorting the

gut bgs did though, maybe its all linked. Dirt near sandpits or pressure

treated timber will contain arsenic among other things.

The name is pica. It can be treated with homeopathy, and it could signify a

mineral deficiency.

Eating dirt is a classic sign of mineral and trace element deficiency. He

needs a good multi-mineral supplement.

Pica. A registered dietitian consult is needed.

My son is 18mos and does the same thing, in fact he has preferred dirt clods,

rocks, even tried to take bites from charcoal(to no avail ofcourse, but only

because he can no longer see it!) I mentioned it to his ped before dropping

him, they did an iron test and said his level was like a 10 or 12, something in

that range, which meant nothing to me, aside from him saying that wasn't the

cause, and never mentioned it again or anything else for that matter.

The response to this post was " pica " is something i should worry about?

I was thinking it could be connected to mineral deficiency too. Some years

ago I read about dogs that ate plaster and it was suggested to give them

mineral supplements. But I don't remember what the exact cause was other

than minerals. My dog didn't eat plaster.

However last year we got a black lab puppy and she has been licking

the walls when she was little. One year old now and she ate a chunk of

our wall. We give her alfalfa supplements off and on. Some times I go a

week forgetting to give her the supplement only to be reminded by another

gash in my wall.

I have pet rabbits and when I open their food container to feed them my

dog sticks her snout in and gobbles up allot of rabbit pellets too. I think

this food is high in minerals.

I think this could apply to us and to children as well.

This means that the child is starved of certain nutrients because her/his

body is unable to assimilate them from food/milk. As Sheri had written,

homoeopathic treatment will address the root of the problem. I don't know of

any other therapy that will cure pica.

allopaths don't have a clue.....

No, it is not a normal thing, shows an imbalance of some sort but with

homeopathy you don't have to figure out 'why', but you work with the whole

symptom picture of the child and find the one remedy that brings back into

balance so the child doesn't choose this

Tell me more about your son

Great homeopaths in California!

Can be mineral deficiency, especially zinc or a few others. Can also be an

intolerance to foods or supplements, or a yeast problem.
