I still alternate Siberian Ginseng with Licorice Root for adrenal

support/tonic. 920 mg two to three times daily..... most days!

Hello, I haven't posted in several months. Been going through some tough times

with my teenage son and that's taken up all of my time, along with my full-time

job.

I was diagnosted in Nov 99 with AIH, was jaundiced and the whole bit. It was

horrible. I was put on Prednisone and Imuran. As I showed improvement I was

removed from the Prednisone after almost a year. My Imuran was reduced to 100

mg.

Several weeks ago, I had a horrible case of bronchitis and went to the doctor

for medication. He gave me three different meds. After taking the meds I felt

dizzy and disoriented. As I got up from my chair to go lay down, I fainted in

my hallway. When I awoke I could barely stand up. I crawled to my bed and

waiting for my husband to come home. We called the doctor and he said go to

the emergency room. I couldn't get out of bed to go, so I laid in bed all

night and the next full day, not able to stand up, even to go to the bathroom.

It was horrible.

Once I regained some strength I returned to work, but still felt drained and

was white as a ghost. A nurse I work with noticed this and the fact that I was

eating ice, which I never do. She said I showed signs of anemia. It all made

sense, so I called my liver doc for a CBC. Low and behold, my hemoglobin was

7.7, a normal is usually 11-14. I was severely anemic, so bad I had to have

two units of blood transfused. My doc seems to think it was my Imuran. Imuran

really messes with your bone marrow and oxygen in your blood. He cut my dose

to 75 mg a day, hoping that will help. His only fear is that my liver may

raise it's ugly head again since I lowered my dose. It's been about six weeks

since my tranfusion and my hemoglobin now is 10.8 and I feel a lot better. But

lowering my Imuran dose still worries me. My doc is keeping a close eye on my

enzyme levels and hemoglobin. I wanted to share this story in case any of you

on Imuran may experience the same symptoms.

Joan, regarding the disappearance of your fibrosis, my first liver biopsy in

1999 showed moderate scarring, however, my liver biopy this past Novemer showed

improvement. So, everything you said must be true.

I also read about the Ultram. Ultram is a similar drug to Naproxen, so it

shouldn't be classified as a narcotic.

Anyone with any advice on living with a 17 year old male, please sent it. I'm

at my wits in.

My advice to your 17 year old? Just love him and be grateful that you have

a living son. I wish to God every day that I had those problems and joys

that only a 17 year old can give.

i am on a high dose of immuran ..thanx for the heads up......As far as children, i have a 22 yr old female just graduated massage therapy and is getting ready to go for her state license...When she was in her teens I never imagined her graduating high school much less college..I am so proud of her accomplishments...I also have a son who will be 16 in November. He is a different child and has a new set of "teen rules". I know we will survive the male teen years .. i"ll let you know how we re doing .. my first obstacle so far is school and driving ....take care karen

I too live with a 17 year old male. I love him dearly but it can be

difficult. They think they are adults and want to be treated as such but act

like kids and cannot understand why we parents are upset. If you figure out

what to do with a 17 year old male, let me know. I guess you just love them

and hope that you've raised them correctly. I have always said that a child

comes in to this world being who is going to be. You can do a lot of things

to mold them but I think they are who they will be generally when they pop

out screaming.

I survived my 24 year old daughter and she is now turning back in to that

lovely little baby I held and thought was so beautiful. I wasn't sure I was

going to get through it with her.

Teenage years are difficult. Can't give you much advise, just know that I

too am going through the same things. E-mail me directly if you need to

talk.

Hang in there and I'm sure he will grow up to be a man you can be very proud

of. I know I am proud of my 17 year old " man of the house " even when he

acts like a 7 year old.

Doesn't help a bit. Josh gets a huge rash within an hour after any

Tide-washed clothing hits his skin. Actually I noticed my asthma eased

up a bit when I quit using it.

YES! I admit, I still have a bottle of it for summer and Son #2, the

Messy One...if the clothes are just dirty/stained beyond recognition, I

wash them in Tide first, then go through 2 cycles of All to get all the

chemicals out. Nothing cleans like Tide...it just needs to eat through

the dirt, not our skin!
