Guest guest
Hi , Because your autoantibody levels change over time, you won't be having stable levels. It sort of sounds like your antibody levels are dropping and you are headed for remission. What do your FT4 levels look like? Remember that TSH lags at least 6 weeks behind, and it can lag by as long as 18 months or so. TSH is not a very good test for monitoring your thyroid function when you're on ATDs. Have you had TSI levels in a while? They drop as you approach remission.
Guest guest
Hi , Boy, can I empathize with you. My TSH went up to 24 and I felt TERRIBLE, before I got the " approval " for a blood test. I was begging them for it, before I had it. My hair was also falling out in huge amounts, and I would be ready to fall asleep by 12 noon, sitting here in front of the computer! I am definitely not an expert on this stuff, but what I found is that while I was cutting down my PTU from 300 mg. to 25 mg. (that is where I felt the best), each two weeks that it took me to cut down, I would feel better for the first couple of days after I made the cut, and then I would begin to feel horrible again. To me, that said I needed to cut down more. Carbimazole is different from PTU and I believe it is more potent, so I really don't know anything about it. But perhaps you still need to cut down your carbimazole more, or maybe even begin to go off it completely. Just an idea...Please keep us informed about your decision. What does your doctor think? Are you taking any of that bugleweed now? That would probably raise your TSH levels, if you were also taking carbimazole with it. Take care, Arlene I'm puzzled > In December I felt awful, just awful - really hypo - my tsh was 7.1 (ref > range 0.1-5.0) - my hair was falling out in handfuls etc etc > > In January after dropping from 10mg of carbimazole to 5mg my tsh was 2.8 > (same ref range), but I didn't feel much better. > > Then I started to split my pill and take a quarter in the morning and a half > in the evening. Guest guest
Hi , Yippie... is back working !!! TSH is slow to reflect changes and is not the proper test to be used when on ATDS. If this is all they are using, you have been done a huge disservice. You need FreeT4 and FreeT3( if possible, some only do T3). There is a good article at suite101 on this subject. If you had the other tests available and could see the results, it is possible your need for carbimazole has decreased. If that were the case, changing the 1/2 pill to 1/4 pill would be the next logical step. Can you get labs done? I also see many people in the hypo forum finding TSH is best for them between 1 and 2. I hope this turns out to be a wonderful case of your body healing, and need for your medication decreasing. :-) -Pam-
Guest guest
Hello Pam Yes - disservice is the right word. I don't have other values for this period of time and no way of getting tests through the normal channels. I am investigating *abnormal* channels... But in the meantime I need to decide what to do now - do I go down a quarter of a pill or not? I want to, but how much faith can I place in the tsh reading reflecting actuality? Thank you for your positive thoughts. Re: I'm puzzled > Hi , > > Yippie... is back working !!! > > TSH is slow to reflect changes and is not the proper test to be used when on ATDS. My doctor doesn't think anything - she doesn't know. The endo finally agreed to me splitting the pill and taking 2.5mg so that's something, but he's only basing that on the tsh reading - he doesn't know anything either. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for writing back. Sounds like you are still really hypo, so you shouldn't use any of that bugleweed now, anyway... As for me, I am trying to be balanced. I feel like I am on this little seesaw - one day I feel too hyper, take a little bugleweed, then I feel hypo. But, because of this wonderful forum, I know for a fact that we have palpitations at hypo, though the doctors swear this is a hyper symptom. I really wonder, actually, if once you have had Graves', that is when you can get palpitations at either hypo or hyper. I wonder if regular plain ol hypo people ever have had lots of palpitations? Or if it is just we special GD people...LOL Wishing you health & balance, in the very near future. The hardest time is when you are hypo, I fully concur! (scariest at hyper, most horrible symptoms at hypo - boy, so many of us here are such experts now!) Guest guest
I recently had the same thing happen with my son after giving him a glass of purple grape juice for the first time. I posted a question about it and someone replied that things like grape juice or advil can have this effect so I wouldn't be surprised if it was the slushy. > Hi, > I don't have my 5 year old daughter on enzymes right now. Guest guest
Allie has green poop anytime she drinks purple or blue stuff. The scary is when she has something red. First time it happened I thought she was hemmoraging! Debi > Hi, > I don't have my 5 year old daughter on enzymes right now. She has been on > the Ojibwa tea for a little over a week. Guest guest
My son used to react that way to sugary junkfoods/drinks such as the slushie. > Hi, > I don't have my 5 year old daughter on enzymes right now. Guest guest
Much thanks to all who replied. I guess it's safe to conclude the slushies were the culprit. Thanks for solving the puzzle. :-) Janet > > blue coloring + yellow bile = green output > > > .
