I am highlighting this post because this area comes up a bit both in

this group (because it deals with the practical issues of

digestion/nutrition/supplements) and in the autism treatment group

(because mercury and sulfur make the tight bonds, and are

intricately related to metal removal - or not). This new group

should relieve some of the 'pressure' of the often-confusing world

of sulfur supplements/reaction, as well as provide some expertise

for in-depth discussion and information on the subject.

Owens is a trained and studied researcher in sulfur and

sulfation. Sulfation is involved in many metabolic pathways in the

body. The issue of sulfur often comes up if you are dealing with

chelation or metal removal. It can be very complicated and there are

no easy answers. is known for writing clearly and explaining

rather complicated tehnical concepts in a way most people can

understand, in several message groups. She has proven to be very

generous with her time in the past in answering people concerns and

questions. This group is likely to involve discussion of more

complex interactions, but if this is an interest, you may want to

stop by this group.

The name of the list is sulfurstories

Listmates,

I would like to invite listmates to join me in a new groups

which will provide a place for people to compare their experiences

with sulfur supplements. I've deliberately not made it an autism-

only list because I think we can learn from the experiences of

others who are taking sulfur supplements for other reasons. Please

join and share your story if you, your child, or someone you know

has had a very positive or a very negative reaction to a sulfur

supplement, or you would like to learn more about others' experience

in this area. I have no idea if this will be an active list or not,

but I do think it could be valuable for people to have one place to

go looking for this sort of information.

I encourage listmates to forward this message to other groups that

would have any interest in this topic. I also especially encourage

doctors to join who may have an even broader base of experience, and

may have been in a position to see opposite reactions and notice the

differences in their patients. The goal is to learn, and

consolidate the things we are already learning from personal

observation.

I hope to see you there,

With best wishes,

Title : Sulfur stories

Description : he role of sulfur in biology has been overlooked

through the years, but there are many disease processes where the

sulfur chemistry is under particular stress. Dietary supplements

which try to meet this need can be wonderful for some and cause

surprising adverse reactions in others. Right now, we don't know

enough about what may cause this difference in response, but we will

get to that understanding faster by sharing our stories.

This list is set up as a forum for people who have seen very

positive or very negative responses to sulfur supplements of various

sorts. Discussions of biomedical diagnostic testing are welcomed and

encouraged, and people may also share abstracts from research

articles, when relevant.

Supplements discussed on this list will include:

MSM

N-acetylcysteine

taurine

sulfate (epsom salts, primarily)

biotin

thiamine

SAMe

methionine

L-cysteine

glutathione

alpha lipoic acid

glucosamine sulfate

chondroitin sulfate

DMSA or DMPS

and things that support sulfur pathways

such as:

pantothenic acid

molybedenum

magnesiumglutamine

B6 (pyridoxine)

folic acid

Vitamin B12

DMG or TMG (betaine)

niacinamide

iron

Attempts to sell or market products via this list will not be

allowed, and listmates involved with sales or manufacture of

supplements will need to disclose that connection in the signature

line of their posts.

Let's keep an atmosphere of positive sharing. Discussions that make

the atmosphere different from positive must be taken off the list.

Please indicate a diagnosis (if relevant) in your signature line,

but that is not required.

Owens
