Guest guest
We gave my 4 year old 250 mg for a month. We stopped because although it worked at first it started to cause him to sleep less. When we stopped his sleep was much better than when we started. Others have reported this. He is also sleeping much better since we started using zyme and pep with each meal. Guest guest
> any suggestions on sleeping at > night better without whinning?? Big issue at our house! Here are some things we've tried with my kids that have helped. * Eliminate caffeine (I know you've probably already done that, but just in case). * Try changing the timing of the stimulant meds to earlier in the day. * Give a small, high-protein snack at bedtime. * Try a fan, a small fountain, or a fish tank to provide white noise and block out noises that may disturb him. * Increase exercise in the morning or early afternoon. * Quiet activities only after supper. * No bright lights after supper. Turn off as many lights in the house as possible after supper. Those that you need, put on dimmer switches, so you get as little light as possible. * Warm bath after supper. Add a few drops of lavendar oil. If the bathroom lights are bright, use candles. * Try a lavendar sachet under the pillow. Or make a flannel bag, fill it with rice and lavendar, and microwave it at bedtime. Let him put the warm back across his shoulders, or anywhere else it feels good. * Try a heavy blanket. Not heavy as in warm, heavy as in weighs a lot. My son with AS can't sleep without his " ten ton blanket of doom. " * Try an egg-crate mattress topper under the sheets. * Try jersey or flannel sheets. * Make sure he doesn't wear socks to bed. Warm feet keep some people awake. * Make sure the room is cool. * Make sure the room is dark. If he's afraid of the dark, try a dawn/dusk simulator, and set it so the room gets slowly darker over a period of 30 minutes to an hour. * Try joint compressions. It's a technique sometimes combined with brushing for SID. An OT taught me to do it for my middle son. The brushing didn't help, but the joint compressions make a big difference to how easily he falls asleep. At our house, when all else fails, we use Benedryl. We've used Clonidine in the past, as well as melatonin, but I'm not persuaded they're safe, and my kids don't like the way they feel the next day. Guest guest
Check out www.immunotec.com I think the company makes a milk-derived sleep product that helps one to fall asleep. I have not tried the product. My son takes Melatonin Help Wanted with Melatonin Question/Concern > > I have been giving my son 3 mgs of Melatonin at night but my son gets really > extremly tired on it and starts to whine and so I now give him less than half > of > the dosage of Melatonin and he complains of feeling hot on his face. > Melatonin > may do something to the temp of the body and myself would like to give my son > something else than that for he really lately is cranky when I give it to > him.
