Guest guest
Hi , I'm sure someone more knowledeable about enzymes will write back, with better answers, but i was online and saw your post and thought I'd just start. First, you should read the files section of . that will answer most of what you are asking. There's now another site. Is it enzymestuff.com? I think so. That's another place. > 1. Has anyone used just enzymes and seen great results without ever trying > GFCFSF? > ...some people have. But you are going to have to expect a big withdrawal early on when you first use the Zyme Prim and Peptizyde (both from Houston Neutraceuticals) as they will change the way your sons' digest certain proteins. This withdrawal is hard to distinguish from just plain not tolerating the enzymes, and you will need to tell at what level the child reacts. Start with 1/8 cap zyme prime and work up to 1 capsule/meal for each boy. Record what happens. If at 1/8 cap the child is going bananas, he may not tolerate the enzyme at all. if at 1/2 cap he's going a little bananas, it may be withdrawal. It's kind of hard to explain. > 2. How many enzymes would I need to order to keep up with both boys and how > long will a bottle last? > Hard to say. But you are likely to go through 3 Zyme Primes and 3 Peptizydes per child per day once you are up and running. And there's 90 (I think!) in the bottle. You may eventually try No Phenol, but that's later and you use less. > 3. Are the enzymes in pill ( capsule ) form...and if so...How do you get > your little ones to take them? > Capsule form. Open it up and put on food or in drink. > 4. Could someone please tell me exactly what I should be ordering? > Houston? And do I need to get No -Fenol too? > I've got the wrong number because i'm in the UK, but you can go to www.houstonni.com and find out. Order the Zyme Prime and Peptizyde. > 5. How many of these will I need in a day? My kids do not really eat > meals..they snack all day ....so I wonder how this will work? Can I expect > to see illness as a result of die off? > You can put them in a cold drink which you keep in the fridge and get your kids to keep taking sips. It would be better if you had mealtimes, even small mealtimes. Die-off isn't exactly the right description, but you may see withdrawal and it comes in many forms. Usually they either go spacey or hyper. > 6. For kids with Phenol problems should I then be looking at the AFP Pep > instead of just peptizyde? > AFP is a safer option to start with anyway, in my opinion. Be aware that not all children can eat regular food with enzymes, although many can. You should not be giving your child any artificial colourings, aspartame, msg, etc. I realise this is hard, but at least get rid of MSG. Good luck. Many others will chime in with better answers. marti > >
Guest guest
Thanks Marti, i appreciate your reply! They boys do not get any artificial colorings or flavorings and no MSg ...at least none that i am aware of....so we are ahead of the game there...LOL They seem to stim when they have colored juices ( well the one that takes juice anyway!). So we have removed alot of the colored things from their diets....It is hard.....sigh. Ok I will check out the files section and i will look up the other site you mentioned in you post.... Thansk so much for taking the time to answer me! Hugs, michelle
Guest guest
Hi To answer your question 1. Has anyone used just enzymes and seen great results without ever trying GFCFSF? Parents have reported significant improvements when they were not already gfcf. Some do still need to do some food restrictions. My son was gfcf, and off corn, soy, eggs, all but a few fruits, most vegetables, and off many other foods. We did this diet for about a year before enzymes. He did better with enzymes than the diet, BETTER with capital letters. We find he should still avoid corn syrup, whatever the heck is in the chocolate milk they serve at school, Fritos, nitrates, and other artificial additives when possible. Marti had a helpful reply for you. I would start with the first report in the Files section www./group/ /files/. Please come back if you have more questions. Best wishes, > Thanks Marti, > i appreciate your reply! > They boys do not get any artificial colorings or flavorings and no MSg ...at least none that i am aware of....so we are ahead of the game there...LOL They seem to stim when they have colored juices ( well the one that takes juice anyway!). Guest guest
--Hi ! I too, am new to this board, but I will share what little I know. My boys are doing the enzymes in lue of the CFGF diet. We tried, but it was expensive and overwhelming. I still try to make healthy choices for them ( watch the preservatives, dies, additives, ect...) But for the most part, we are relying on the enzymes to do their thing. I started the boys on the AFP Peptizyde first. I gave one capsule before each meal or snack. After about 2 weeks I added the Zyme- Prime as well. So now they get 1 Pep and one Z-P before each meal/snack. I am told that they have a 1 hour window in which to eat before more enzymes need to be given. I will do this for about 1 month and then I plan to add the No-Phenol as well. I understand that you do mot need to give as much of that. (a little goes a long way) My boys can not swallow capsules or pills yet, so we open the capsules up and mix them with something. They seem to like the Wild Cherry syrup from Kirkman's. I put just enough to wet the enzymes, mix it up, and use a syringe to get it in them. They chase it with a drink of water. (We have also tried Sunny Delight and white grape juice.) Our newest way is to mix the enzymes witha little bit of chocolate frosting. That is by far their favorite! Check out the mixing page for more ideas and things others have tried successfully. We have been very pleased thus far with the enzymes. I have not seen anything that I would consider to be a negative. My guys seem to be feeling and doing better! I am excited by their progress and hope that things will only get better! This board is a wonderful source of information and the people here are very helpful. Best of luck to you, whatever you decide. Guest guest
Hi Sarita, i would love to stay in touch....Thank you so much for sharing your story with me....LOL It has been a hard thing for us to decide to do.....but we have decided to go for it! I ordered the AFP Zyme Prime and No fenol today...i onl;y ordered one bottle of each.....but at least that will give me an idea of what we need and how the boys react to them ( the enzymes I mean). We were having a great amount of trouble getting to a place that had GFCFSF.....Nothing around here does have and the local grocery store told us that there would have to be more than one person requesting these things in order for them to do it...ughk! I am sooo looking forward to seeing some changes.... Again than you so much! -Mom to Aidan and Devlin ~:~~:~ ~Twinmom To Aidan and Devlin~ Sigtag By Graphic Garden crooksbums@... Guest guest
, I would highly reccommend 's book - " Enzymes for Autism and other Neurological conditions " by DeFelice. It is extremely informative and made me feel at ease with using the enzymes. Also, I'm sure you probably already know this, but the Peptizyde works on the casein and gluten, and the Zyme Prime works on the proteins and everything else. The No-Phenol of course, works on the phenols, although the Zyme Prime might be all you need to handle those. Just depends on your kids... If you call the phone number for Houston Pharmacuticals, you can actually speak with Devin Houston. He is very nice and extremely helpful. Let me know how it goes! Guest guest
> >> > > Houston? And do I need to get No -Fenol too? > if your boys have phenol issues definately get nf and the afp. Logan is highly reactive to phenols and is having problems with regular pep. Also though you should start low with the nf I had to go to a whole one before even a snack because Logan is so reactive. So if you are not seeing results with the nf up the dose(slowly). I was too chicken to go past half and was getting frustrated at no results. Once I upped it to a whole one I got much better results. > 5. How many of these will I need in a day? My kids do not really > eat meals..they snack all day ....so I wonder how this will work? Logan has had behavioral problems due to yeast I believe and possible due to the opiate effect leaving. Nothing like sickness...just behavioral like tantrumming. > > 6. I spent tons of money on gf/cf for only having him on it 10 days!! I had to order all mine online. If you want to go that route email me and I will send you my food links. but I would try the enzymes first. Do not feel guilty about anything. You are doing your best and that is all you can do. Also you might check if there is a celiac foundation close to you.....they may have resources for you to access food. more hugs!! hang in there!! I am new to this too and it can be so overwhelming. mom to my own 34 week premie
Guest guest
Thanks !!!! I appreciate the support and the experience of everyone here....Lord i would be lost in la-la land without the guidance I find in these groups! We decided to try enzymes first just to see if there were any significant changes...LOL I have oprdered all of the ones we need....and we shall soon see how it goes... Oh thats the other question I have...i almost forgot! Devlin ( oldest twin) drinks only milk...I know, I know...we only have soy milk and Rice Cream in our grocery store...and he throws the soy milk up...So once we start with the ezymes how can i make certain that he is indeed benefiting from them with the amount of milk that he drinks...We have just ordered a sample of Vances Dari Free...so hopefully he will take that...LOL Thanks again! ~:~~:~ ~Twinmom To Aidan and Devlin~ Sigtag By Graphic Garden crooksbums@... Guest guest
, Vance's Dari Free is actually a pretty good tasting milk substitue! (It is actually potato milk) My boys really like the chocolate flavor! I've been known to drink a glass or two myself! Guest guest
Hi , thought to say hi, and introduce self. since seen that you live in northern ontario, and thus, are the only other person on this list that can recall being from northern ontario. (live outside of sudbury). welcome, and am happy to see another resident of the under-serviced- north here.... ) intro: am minna. mom to mika and michelle. we are all on spectrum. (have a dx of high functioning autism, and one for aspergers, and now, one also for PDD-NOS... what will it be... enee, minee, mo.. ) kids-aspergers. am a single mom. 36 yrs old. we have been taking houstons enzymes for a little over a year now. these enzymes have made the biggest difference over any other therapy that we have tried. understand the difficulty in getting products up here. we get rice milk from YIG grocery stores, and it is reasonable price, and taste. although, with peptizyde, son is able to tolerate milk completely with no ill effects. the best health food store around that have seen in the north, is in north bay. (have lived in north bay, thunder bay, and sudbury areas in northern ontario). minna
