Guest guest
Can anyone give me tips on zinc absorption? My son and I were taking 50 mg daily zinc picolinate after learning about pyroluria. His acne went away, flexibility (physical) improved, and it didn't hurt as much when I brushed his hair. For myself, I don't think I noticed much change. After several months the dr. had us quit for a week to re-do the pyroluria test, then increase to about 90 mg. It has been downhill since. Since that first week, I have had flexibility problems (achilles tendons very tight) which I never had before, his acne and scalp sensitivity are back, and he is as tight as ever. Also my back continually pops, which can be low zinc. I read here to take breaks in the zinc and to try zinc monomethionine, so now we take OptiZinc 60 mg Monday Tuesday Wed and skip the rest of the week (except the 15 mg zinc amino acid chelate in the multi-mineral). Have been doing that for a month or 2, but with no improvement. Today I read to separate the zinc and B-6, so will start that this week (thank you , for these suggestions). Anything else we should try? Is 3 days on, 4 days off a good way to avoid continual zinc supplementation? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Guest guest
Are you giving it with calcium? Not sure if it helps, but I read that zinc should be given away from calcium (somewhere... can't recall where.) I'm betting others will have some much better advice. D. Guest guest
grinding of teeth could be due to worms.. my son used to grind teeth a lot (day when he is not sleeping). I gave him a single dose of zentel over the counter medicine (as advised by my doctor friend) and that reduces the intensity after a few weeks. Guest guest
Yes you want to give away from calcium. It takes months and months of zinc supplementation to get intracellular levels up. How long between testing? I was told it can take up to 8 months to get levels normal, depending on how low to start with. 39 and Mom to three Tasha 22 ooops..new Mommy ( Grammy to Kyri 18/m) Casey-Mae 14..sweet as pie Elijah 2 1/2.. Guest guest
The pfeiffer institute does something called zinc loading in their therapies. When we found this out we felt better about how much our son was on. My son took 5x the RDA of chelated zinc from new beginnings for around 6 months with no known adverse effects. We saw huge gains on zinc. I don't know the reasonings behind why high doses of zinc works for some children. We didn't test, I came to this dose through muscle testing. Guest guest
Wow. I 've been giving zinc and calcium wafers at the same time for the past year. How far apart should they be? s [ ] Re:Zinc absorption problems Are you giving it with calcium?
