Has anyone had any experience with DygestZyme from Transformation? How does it

compare to Houston's enzymes?

Thanks for your reply

This is the one I found, is this correct? Transformation has an

entire line of enzymes (like about 16 different kinds)

Each 220mg capsule of DigestZyme provides:

Protease 33,250 HUT

Amylase 6,100 CU

Lipase 200 FCCLU

Cellulase 660 CU

Lactase 400 LacU

Invertase .2 IAU

Maltase 250 DP0

L. Acidophilus 100 million organisms

L. Bifidus 30 million organisms

120 capsules per bottle. No fillers.

Recommended usage: 2 or more capsules with every meal. 1-2 capsules

with snacks.

My comments: This would need to be compared to the Houston Zyme

Prime. Looks fine for a broad-spectrum enzyme product. But the Zyme

Prime appears to be a bit better - has more activity per capsule.

The amylase is not is recognizable units so I can't tell

I noticed that the Recommended Dose is " 2 or more " capsules per meal

which would be consistent with the labels. You would need to take at

least 2 of these to equal the activity in one Zyme Prime capsule.

The Zyme Prime has MUCH more protease which may be a plus or a

minus....the lipase is the same. So if you wanted a product with

more lipase without increasing the proteases, then this would be

very good (example: if you have a diet higher in fats and a very

injured gut and so would not want the proteases to irritate it). But

this company also makes Lypozyme, so maybe that would better.

Otherwise the Zyme Prime has a slightly broader spectrum of enzymes.

I don't put much stock in the token amountsof probiotics. First of

all, I am not sure the probiotics would be surviving without

refrigeration, but they might. It is just a nice-to-have in there,

but not enough to provide a lot of gut probiotic acitivity (if that

is what you want - I mean, this amount would not replace a good

probiotic supplement). I talked with the company that makes Candex

and she said that they re-formulated the product without probiotics

because people were mistakingly thinking that the probiotics in the

enzyme product could replace a probiotic supplement and that is not

what they intended it for.

I saw the price varied from $20 for 120 capsule bottle to $40 for

the same. I hope you got a good deal on it. If you are using this,

please let us know how it works out.

I found another listing of ingredients. The amylase in DigestZyme is

supposed to be in DU units:

Ingredients: Each 220 mg. capsule of DIGESTZYME provides: Protease

30,000 HUT, Amylase 10,000 DU, Lipase 145 FCCLU, Cellulase 600 CU,

Lactase 360 LacU, Invertase .72 IAU, Maltase 250 DP, L. Acidophilus

100 million organisms, L. Bifidus 30 million organisms.

Directions: 1-5 capsules with every meal. 1-2 capsules with snacks.

The dosage is dependent on the types of foods eaten and the

individual's difficulty of digestion. If alcohol is consumed with

the meal dosage should be increased. (1 extra capsules is suggested

with wine.)

This amount of amylase is similar to one capsule of Zyme Prime (at

12,000 DU) so that is comparable. The difference in protease content

is the biggest issue. I notice this site says to take up to 5

capsules at one meal though. So with this one you are looking at 15

capsules a day just for meals and potentially 3-6 more for snacks.

This would just be up to the person though, but it sure shows that

the 5-9 capsules some of us use is quite within reason and

the 'safety' of enzymes.
