Guest guest
Does anyone know what it means when a calcium/magnesium supplement does not promote a calming effect or help with sleep in the evening? We use Target-Mins Calcium-Magnesium complex from Country Life, but it seems to give my daughter more of a lift than calming her down like other parents have reported. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Re: Sleep problems I recently began with a mag/cal (amino acid chelate) from Schiff with good results. I am giving it mostly to try to help with night waking, sleep walking and anxiety. RDA has made a big difference, but I may go up from there to help with onset and persistent anxiety. We use melatonin, but it doesn¹t seem to be too helpful at 1 mg. Guest guest
Um, that it's not absorbing well or making her body work too hard to break it down, maybe? What form of calcium does it contain? What form is it in (tablet/capsule/liquid)? For my son, it would mean that the " other ingredients " list included certain herbs that he did not tolerate. Dana
Guest guest
Dear , If I remember correctly, someone,(I think it was Steve) said magnesium is a serotonin elevator (terminology might be inexact). If your daughter is in the sub-group that has high rather than low serotonin, the magnesium might be exacerbating the problem. Maybe someone can set the record straight. > > > Hey everyone--I have tried melatonin, benadryl, and killing > > parasites, but my daughter still waits until 11:00 to go to bed, and > > she wakes up every 3- hours during the night. Guest guest
Terri, The cal/mag supplement is in tablet form which I break in half in hopes that she would absorb it better. The calcium is a combo of hydroxyapatite, citrate, aspartate, alpha-ketoglutarate, and lysinate. The magnesium is a combo of oxide, citrate, taurinate, alpha-ketoglutarate, and aspartate. It also contains phosphorus as calcium hydroxyapatite. Two tablets daily provide 1000mg-500mg daily. Guest guest
Thanks Dana, It does contain alot of different forms of calcium and magnesium. Guess it's time to look around for another brand. Guest guest
> what brand would you recommend?? I use Henry's Marketplace brand. It is a subsidiary of Wild Oats, so you might find it there. Or any other local place. It contains just calcium and magnesium in a capsule, without any herbs. My son still does not tolerate most herbs.
