I have used both these products for years with no problem for two boys. The

ProEfa has no vit. A or D, like the cod liver oil, so you do not need to

worry about overdosing on those if that is your concern. The cod liver oil

does have a small amt. of EFA, but if your need is to add in more EFA;s then

there should be no harm in using both. Does that make sense?

Martha, I would feel much safer with her starting at 0.25 cc/kg/hr for

at least 15 minutes before going to 0.5. Here in the states, I believe

they start at around 10 ml/hour for the first 15 minutes - check all the

vital signs, ask about headache or dizziness, etc. then if that's okay

they increase slightly every 15 minutes doing the same re-check of

everything. Gradually they can work up to their maximum comfort rate.

Thanks for the advice Dale. I will certainly ask about this on Monday.

Hi Dawn,

Thanks for the advice. It does argue for doing a slow rate on the first try.

I hope the second try in the ICU goes better for your son. Are they going

Hi Sandi,

I am going to bring an epipen and benedryl (oral) just in case the nurses

get " busy " . They said they would be checking every 1/2 hour so I want to be

on the safe side. I know that they have drugs in the crash cart -- but it

could take a few minutes to get the appropriate drugs.

I have had the same thing you are talking about. I used to hop up nad down to try and get rid of it. I also would try and eat more and drink more. I know this does not sound right but i would either regurg all the stuff our or get lucky and have it get pushed into my stomach. I hope you feel better soon.

Dear Achalasians,

Do any of you have scattered esophageal spasms? I have just been sitting here, reading the posts, and my doggone E has been lumping up, staying "stuck" feeling, and then stops doing this tango. It annoys me. I haven't eaten for hours and that doggone esophagus of mine is feeling as if food is stuck down there. Geesh. I get this hard and nasty blocked feeling, then I feel as if I can't breathe quite right so I put my chin to my chest and wait it out (chin to chest seems to help a little bit, don't know why).

ANNOYING.

Deborah, are you able to regurgitate "on command" when you have those feelings? Some people can, some people can't. In my case, I would just go to a sink or toilet and bend over and do a little retch (kinda like trying to force a belch), and it would all come unstuck and I would feel better.

If for some reason I couldn't just regurgitate it, it was usually b/c it didn't feel like there was enough volume in my esophagus for my retching to be effective. I would drink a bunch of water to really fill up my esophagus and loosen up whatever was stuck in there, then my retching would bring up the water AND the food. I would also do this esophageal emptying period before every bedtime. Really cut down on the number of times I woke up coughing with food/saliva spilling into my lungs.

Hi Deborah - So much of this process is trial and error so let me

throw in my 2 cents. Have you tried warm/hot fluids? I personally

find that even after surgery I still feel kind of 'tight' sometimes,

especially if I'm stressed. We have to remember that even when our

LES opens for us, we don't have peristalsis to push our food down

like most people do; so for instance, I find salad difficult

sometimes not because my LES won't open but because it is 'light' so

gravity doesn't help as much as it does with say - meat. Does that

make sense? You know what's funny - I could try to explain this to

someone without A and they would probably look at me like I've got 2

heads but I'm guessing you guys know what I mean...

So you may have to try a variety of methods to help 'clean' your self

out. My most effective seems to be hot tea (herbal) - it feels like

the heat helps to relax the muscles. It's what I drink for spasms but

also I have some every night before bed to help clean out what may be

lurking in my E. Ginger helps also - just an all around good tonic

for GI stuff. Buy some in the spice aisle at the grocery store,

sprinkle some in a cup with a little sugar and some hot water - easy,

cheap and I find very effective.

Good luck and when you find something that works for you, let us know.

Happy Swallowing!

Hey..that is sooo weird because that happened to me a few months ago.

I didn't feel like anything was stuck but I felt like my neck

postition was " off " or something like I couldn't breathe right. So I

kept sitting up straight and repositioning myself to breathe better.

That has happened twice. I really can't remember if I felt like

anything was stuck...but its possible. I don't pay attention anymore.

Shalom,

What did you do with the cucumber and apple? Did they

have to juiced too before combining with beet juice,

lemon and olive oil?

Thanks.
