Hi Carolyn,

I would suppose at this time that New Yorkers & Canadians would need an

out-of-state friend to help them out with this problem.

Good Luck ,

What did you think of Dr. Vaezi? Isn't he a very confident doctor and just

says it the way it's going to be and what's going to happen? " I am so glad

to hear you are getting in within a month! They are very organized. The

follow-up is wonderful also. They keep calling me to come back for my year

check-up, but I keep telling them, if it's not broken, then we don't need to

fix it. I told them I will come when there is any change. They just

laughed and said okay. It's probably not a good thing to do, but I just

don't want any more tubes or swallows for a while.

I know I told you last week that I haven't had any spasms in about 4 months,

well I spoke to soon. I had them 3 mornings in a row. They still aren't as

bad as they used to be I am just not used to the pain anymore. All is well

now, they just wipe me out for a day and I get scared to move that it might

come on again!

How far are you from TCC? Are you staying over the night before in that

fancy hotel next to the clinic? We drove home after the procedure. I even

stopped and ate because I was starving. Our drive was about 2 1/2-3 hours.

Let us know how everything went as soon as you get home. Good luck.

Re: Re: Post Myotomy Dilatations/ Dr Ostroff at UCSF

HI Sandi !

Welcome to the one in a million club! Sorry to hear that though. Funny my

surgeon also said that if I had not told him he would not have known I had a

myotomy !!

Good wishes for your choice of treatment. Have you definitely decided on the

dilatation option ? Hope it is soon and you can get some relief again.

11 days to go for me. I have an urgent appointment with my cardiologist

about my raised BP next Tuesday. I am wondering if it is not the 25mg of

amytriptaline that I have been taking since February which has pushed up my

BP. Feb is about when it started to rise, and because I had such awful

stress then I did not notice it. I have got a new book from the Readers

Digest about medicines and their effects and side effects and there it says

for Tryptonol 'If you have high blood pressure notify your doctor' - most

doctors would not know about it either so it is a bit of a silly statement,

but it is a lead or warning. I stopped it on Sunday so now we will see what

happens.

How is your daughter? Saw a series on Telly recently about the development

of the foetus in the womb - the most stunning pictures and I thought of her.

And the business ? It must be busy now that you are going into summer.

Lots of hugs and good wishes,

Joan

RE: Re: Post Myotomy Dilatations/ Dr Ostroff at UCSF

Hello all,

I had my consultation for a second opinion with Dr Patti today at UCSF. He

said I have two options, either a series of dilatations or another surgery.

He said I am one of the 10% of failed myotomies which means I am now one in

a million. LOL

He is writing a letter to my PCP explaining for insurance purposes that I

am not to have the procedure done by anyone but a specialist who specializes

in doing dilatations on myotomies. He said there are only 3 Dr's that he is

confident with. Dr. Richter in Pennsylvania, Dr. Vaezi at the Cleveland

Clinic and Dr. Ostroff in San Francisco.

I am very confident with Richter and Vaezi.Dr. Vaezi would probably be my

first choice. I just haven't heard much about Dr Ostroff. Does anyone have

any experience with having dilations post myotomy with Dr Ostroff at UCSF?

Patti seems to be a little concerned because of all the scar tissue that I

had at the time of my surgery which was why I perforated. He also said that

from looking at my most recent x-rays.if he hadn't known that I had a

myotomy, he would not have believed it.

Any news regarding Dr Ostroff would be appreciated.

I also had a little visit with Cameron and Carolyn while I was there.

Carolyn is a sweetheart of a mom, and Cameron looked absolutely wonderful!

He is really bouncing back quickly after surgery!

Hugs to you all,

Sandi in No CA

Way to go Cameron!! You sound like a real trooper. Hope you get to eat

everything you want as soon as possible. I was very young when I started

with A. I wished back then, they knew what to do with it. So happy they

helped you this early. Take care little guy, it's going to work out well

for you now.

Carolyn, glad to hear you get to go home today! Take care and keep posting.

Thanks !

I'm looking forward to treatment. I've been pretty good with my

spasms, last one was over 2 weeks ago. I'm sorry to hear that your's

are comming back! I've found my trick is ice water-- when I feel one

comming on and it goes away in a matter of seconds! Hopefully

everyone can find their nitch to stop the spasms as everyone is so

different.

Dr Vaezi is great, so personable and so willing to answer your

questions! I saw some other postings people have said that he's one

of the most experienced dilators, I feel comfortable in his care!

TCC is 3 1/2 hrs away, but I plan on going home the same day. As far

as check-ups, I'm definitly all for getting a barium annually. I

could probably even do a barium at my local GI and send it to Dr

Vaezi since TCC is far from home. They did mention having

manometry's annually too, I don't think I'm agreeable to this because

#1 manometry's are unpleasent and #2 with the Barium swallow you can

see what the LES is doing--granted you can get the pressure readings

though. I guess it depends on the situation too.

I look forward to having food slip down my esophagus and not " hanging

out " any more!!!!

Looks like we get a lot more junk in our email, for free!

Probably some conversion trouble that will go away.

Now if only all this junk along the side and bottom of the email would go
