Guest guest
Have you considered the OCD/TS spectrum dxes? Almost anything can be a compulsion or a tic, and most kids with OCD say they do their compulsions because they " just have to. " (Not doing them increases anxiety.) There are complex tics that can be a series of behaviors, tics are not only just rapid and quick motions such as eye blinking. Subject: Re: visual stimming/timming/omegas/Questions? , Steve, Others, I guess I am surprised that these are not ordinary stims. I believe you and I am very grateful for the input. My daughter is not even able to get a diagnosis of ADD from behavior, but she had a DDI Hair Test and a Organic Acids Test that clearly put her in the mercury toxic range. After 15 rounds of chelation we did another DDI Hair test and it does not meet the " counting rules. " Nonetheless, she still has lots of little habits and things that mean we will be chelating every weekend (Andy's protocol used) for a while. She is academically gifted, as well as musically gifted. High IQ kid with an incredible memory. She would never be identified as different from other kids by watching her play or interact or talk, but she is. She is a bit behind socially, but not enough for most people to notice unless they spend hours and hours with her. She is verbally advanced and interested in lots of things. She plays with her two brothers well, but she tends to be short-tempered with them at times. Having said all of this, yes we have been to a neurologist as well as a psychiatrist, psychologist, and currently a DAN Doctor. (I have left out perhaps 5-10 other doctors and just as many therapists--We were searching for answers in and out of Utah.) What should I do to determine the nature of these " stims? " If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate your help. Is there a list of normal stims for Autistic Spectrum kids? I have always asked other people about what stims their kids use. I thought the smelling everything, touching everything was ASD. The running back and forth I have heard before, but you think it may be related to something else? The visual stims--is that unusual? Yes, she is able to talk with me and she will usually say she just has to do it. She can stop doing them if she is told that it not appropriate in certain settings. How about the hand regarding? Dr. Jepson is our DAN Doc here in Salt Lake and he said that some kids are having seizures when they space out or have strange behavior. I wonder if we need to be concerned about seizures? What would we do if she did have minor seizures? We had her on DEPAKOTE for behavior problems several years ago and that is an anti-seizure medicine. That made her shake and gave her a myriad of side effects. After two months I had to wean her off it. THANKS SO MUCH FOR RESPONDING. It helps to know that these stims may not be normal. in Salt Lake City
