Guest guest
Here we are, and isn't it a beautiful day? I can say that. I had a wonderful night's sleep, a glorious experience at the beach yesterday with my son, and even more answers for helping him get better. I'm not gloating, just sharing so if your child is similar to mine perhaps this will help your child too. ph has been on enzymes for approx. 5 1/2 mo. ph also drinks Ojibwa Tea, takes 1 DMG and was recently put on the antiviral Valtrex. We've tried several more things, and I've researched hundreds more, but these are what applied to our situation and what we've kept because they work. The DMG started the talking we'd get 3-4 word utterances instead of grunts or the one or two strung together incoherent to anyone but me words. The Ojibwa Tea and probiotics gave us the social side of ph. Instead of being 3 1/2 and still only playing side by side other children, he'd attempt to engage others socially, talked socially, and would shyly momentarily glance at people's faces ( rather than ignore or hide). Enzymes gave us increased functional concentration, gained weight, improved immune function ( don't ask me how this is possible, but I know we went from pale, at only 10% of normal on weight scale, year round antibiotics, not eating, stimming, sleeplessness, chronic illness that lasted 3-4 weeks at a shot whereby he'd lose 5-7 precious pounds, tantruming, some return of head banging, self injury, irrational crying, unsocial, tip toe walking, arm flapping, etc.) To now he weighs a wonderful 44 pounds at 4 years 9 mo. Has kicked 3 colds, a stomach flu, and two ear infections all on his own without need of antibiotics. Stims are almost all gone, I've let him continue the hair twirling (mine) because it is socially acceptable and calms him, and some spinning ( I know this helps regulate his central nervous system and lasts only minutes now). He has a healthy color and is once again social. I proceeded with the research because despite the improvements, we'd still get irrational behavior/frustration periods, roller coaster with yeast overgrowth ( we'd treat with GSE) and I wanted the CAUSE. I felt my research pointed to a viral or bacterial culprit. Took several months but we got into see Dr. Goldberg. Although my experience with Doctors had not been pleasant up to this point, I'd read enough about Dr. Goldberg to know that IF ph had a virus or bacteria as a component to his problems, Dr. Goldberg could help. If not, well, I'd get some labs done that I wanted, and we'd continue our two steps forward one step back progress. ph tests came back with remarkable results. His nutrition intake/absorption was on the high end of normal, platelets and chem panels normal for the first time ever. The virus's CMV and others I suspected negative, and Herpes 6 a 40. Most people show a past exposure of 10-20. Since starting Valtrex (saw initial adjustment problems, that we'd seen prior with GSE, enzymes, tea, etc.) we have speech that is " more advanced than many neurotypical children of his age " said our speech pathologist. The grammatical errors are not there. Socially he is adapting beautifully. At the beach after the Doctor appt. ph and his father chased the waves, they encountered some little girls doing the same, ph approached them, they snubbed him, he shrugged his shoulders and came running back to where we had originally been playing. We laughed, played tag, and when it was time to go, after a 5 min. warning and a couple of " this is the last wave Mommy " we left. No fits, nothing except " How about some Mcs " . Doctor Goldberg addressed some questions or statements that had been posed by this group. The first one was " Herpes is a virus that can lay dormant, but not be killed " . Dr. Goldberg said this is the crux of the whole current Autism/Gastrointestinal/Immune system issue. He says we've got a whole bunch of Doctors telling us they don't know exactly what our children have, but that we can't fix it. Literally writing off hundreds of children's lives. He said the mentality that says we can't fix this is, comes from many educated Scientists/Doctors, and so not to be upset when parents rightfully repeat what they've been told. The problem is these doctors are operating off of knowledge that is 40 or 50 years old. Not taking into account what is working. Enzymes are working, anti fungal, and anti viral are working. We are on the cusp of getting an agent that will fix this, but for right now we are treating in steps. For ph that means the anti fungal is next, I believe it is called Nyziral. I can't really read his handwriting, but I'll research this like I do everything else before I give it to ph. Dr. Goldberg said if this doesn't work we'll use Difulcan. Again I apologize for the spelling flubs. My point of the update was to share. Most Doctors sneer at enzymes and homeopathic remedies that most of us use to get by day to day. I've found a Doctor who not only is on the same page, but I see, really SEE ph getting better. I keep asking my husband " am I really seeing this, or what? " . Right now I can see ph running around in his pajamas with a blanket draped over his shoulders. He's yelling we've got to find those kittens (he's watching Aristocats). I asked him if wanted breakfast yet, and he said " not yet " . Thanks to enzymes and the weight he has gained I don't have to worry about when or how much he eats. I know that if I go in the kitchen after I'm done on the computer and make pancakes, he'll wash his hands so he can eat. Like I wrote before, it's a beautiful day. Guest guest
, I have been reading about your treatments and research for ph for months now and have had my fingers crossed that Dr. Goldberg would be able to help. I am just thrilled ph is responding so well -- I remember early on with the Valtrex you were a bit nervous about the die-off. This is just fabulous news. You are doing a wonderful job for your son! > Here we are, and isn't it a beautiful day?

It's bad enough when your child is sick like that, so much worse to lose faith in the doctor you thought was going to help. Have you tried OTC antivirals? I just loaded up on all kinds of stuff, just going through them one by one, hoping to beat away the yeast, but I suspect some sort of virus too. We have the roller coaster thing going here too, so I keep telling myself at least now we have the good periods. You're working hard. You and ph will get there.
