Guest guest
well with the mmr you can also get a low level viral infection which makes things very difficult. retinyl(non carotene) vitamin a.... see andy cutlers recommendation on autism treatment. may help with the measles virus. chelators have to be given every four hours or so to keep the blood level up so the emrcury doesn't fall back, again see the files or search on autism mercury. nz is short of selenium , .75mcg/lb of selenomethionine works wonders. you have to be careful with multivitamins that there are no mega doses in it that he can't tolerate. look and see how the quantities relate to the rda. olive leaf may not be as effective as gse or oregano oil with yeast. Guest guest
Hello, FIrst I want to ask what your son weighs and what dose and chelator are you using and how often? If you are following DAN! protocal I am assuming yuou are giving it every 8 hours. Are you a member of the autism mercury list? It is a list just like this one for parents chelating their children. I will provide the link just in case you are not a member: / We follow an alternative protocal for my son suggested on the mercury list of 1/2mg per pound of body weight of child and we dose it on a 3-4 hour scedule rather than an 8 hour. This scedule is much better for the body to handle and kids are improving more with less negative side effects. If you have not please go to the files section on this list and read them thoroughly and you will learn a lot. We also use all 3 HNI enzymes and they have helped my son greatly. We use them with all food. He got so much better on them after 6 months and treating yeast that we were able to go off the diet last April. Are you treating yeast? Yeast can cause some pretty bad behavior problems and regression and often flares when chelating. Hope this helps, Patti
Guest guest
HI and welcome. Just ask whatever you need to. With enzymes there are two main considerations. You need to take the enzymes that are appropriate to break down the food you are eating. Certain enzymes break down proteins, certain ones breakdown starch, certain ones breakdown fats, etc. The second key to success is to make sure the enzymes get in contact with the food (they must be touching in order to work). This is simply a matter of swallowing the capsules before meals, mixing the enzymes in something you can eat or drink and taking this right at the beginning of a meal or snack. So it isn't something you take once a day. We use the Houston ones, www.houstonni.com. These may be a good first choice because you can use them on a diet or off and therefore you get more flexibility. Just so you know, roughly about 50% of the people who do not seem any or much improvement with the GFCF diet do see improvement with Houston enzymes. The Peptizyde is for casein/gluten/soy and other proteins (can be used instead of GFCF diet). The Zyme Prime is a general all-purpose type product. These would be good to start with. The No-Fenol is really most helpful if you know you have a yeast problem or phenol intolerance. Otherwise, try this later. So plan on giving enzymes before each meal or snack. I will send you some 'starter' files on enzymes. One is on mixing suggestions in case your child doesn't swallow capsules. Another is on what to expect. There may be some adjustment effects with any enzymes depending on the person. These are usually short-lived and end by the first week, maybe two or three weeks. The body is getting cleaned out and adjusting to processing food better and absorbing more nutrients. So you may see loose stools (not diarrhea) for a couple days, or a bit of hyperness, or increased thirst. Sorry the chelation isn't working out. It would seem that your son did follow the pattern for that. However, if you are following the 8 hour dosing, this is not as effective for many as the 4-hour dosing. A lot of kids regress or get really sick on the 8-hour DAN protocol and do much better on the 4-hour. If you are not doing 4-hour, you can join the autism treatment group and post a message to Andy Cutler. He is about the best resource for chelation needs there is (and he will give you suggestions for free). What brand or type of probiotics are you giving? . Guest guest
Hi I remeber being where you are, doing all the stuff and getting little by way of returns - keep your chin up! FWIW I would stop chelation for 6 weeks, stick with diet, and introduce digestive enzymes, I use HNI from www.houstonni.com. And the hardest of all, cut sugar big time. This may cause some withdrawal, hyper, mushy poops and stuff - I suspect your boy has problems with yeast/bacteria. If you are using 8 hour protocol at doses greater then 1mg per pound per dose then check out Autism Mercury list files on why changing to 4 hourly low dosing may reduce side effects. You may also need to add/rotate/pulse dose other yeast & bug busters like GSE, Oregano Oil and experiment with probiotics if you don't see any changes with one type, for example many swear by Probiogold, 4 months worth and we still had no good gut bugs, you have to find products to suit your child and their particular problems. Enzymes help by addressing many issues simaltaneously, very good value supplement. You will find this book an invaluable resource > www.thundersnow.com/enzymebook.htm Do I remember right you are in NZ? (your part of the world) would say that would likely equal Selenium deficiency because the soils and stuff are depleted also can help a lot during chelation, he'll probably pipe up! Guest guest
> We had him tested for heavy metal poisoning which found all sorts of > elevated levels of metals especially mercury. So we began chelation > therapy with DMSA-DAN protocol. Two things. First, DMSA only clears metals from the body, so you might not see any " brain-related " improvements until you add ALA. Second, many kids don't do well on the DAN protocol because they need the chelator every 4 hours instead of every 8 hours. Are you giving it every 8 hours [the DAN recommendation]? If you are, consider reducing the dose to something like 25 mg DMSA, and give it every 4 hours, even thru the night. I have more info here http://www.danasview.net/chelate.htm >>Tantrums have increased and become completely out of > control, using up several hours a day. This sounds like the DMSA has aggravated a yeast condition, which it is notorious for doing http://www.danasview.net/yeast.htm You might need a more active yeast protocol, like GSE or other similar. > I am looking into starting on enzymes, manganese and magnesium. > I have no idea where to start with enzymes, there seems so many > possiblities. My doctor doesnt know anything about it. Here are the two main suppliers http://www.houstonni.com/ http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/ I use HNI and they work very well for my family. > > Can anyone with a similar story tell me what worked for them, or > suggest what to try first? Get yeast under control and add ALA to your chelation protocol. Dana
Guest guest
We are using Metagenics Ultra Probioplex (colostrum with Arabinogalactans) and Metagenics Ultra Flora plus. I have no idea how well they work. We have just finished (yesterday) a two month treatment for yeast with Sporonox. I don't know if it got rid of the yeast or not. > HI and welcome. > > Just ask whatever you need to. With enzymes there are two main > considerations. Guest guest
We are doing the 10mg/kg 8 hourly, so he takes 150mg 8 hourly. We have been treating for yeast with Sporonox and just finished a two month treatment yeasterday, so I assmume he hasn't got yeast right at the moment. I think we may try Andy Cutler's protocol. Thank you! > Hello, > FIrst I want to ask what your son weighs and what dose and chelator > are you using and how often? Guest guest
You have gotten alot of good ideas. I wanted to say I stopped chelation for almost a year to get some other issuse under control with my son read the files at the mercuryautism group they are great. Also read a paper on line Understanding Autism by Jepson MD at cbcutah.com. Order the emzymes for gluten and milk these seem to be able to stop my son meltdowns in there tracks and are easy to use they are give with meals and snacks, I mix mine with a little honey and give with eye dropper-- My 2 cents.
