Re: Drinks for Phenol Sensitive Kids?

My son used to drink a lot of juice before I realized all the problems it

could cause. I gradually weaned him off juice by diluting it more and more.

For the past few years, he's only had water to drink. Maybe some very dilute

juice if he's sick. Oh, and some Dari-Free.

Hi:

Mine drinks and tolerates: Flavored water, flavored carbonated water, clear

gatorade and regular bottled water, Diet Rite orange soda and some of the

Crystal Light drink mixes. When they get thirsty enough, they will drink

water....:)

Drinks for Phenol Sensitive Kids?

If we can't have juices and milk and my son doesn't like water,

what's left?

We've been giving him blue gatoraide, but that has citric acid and

tons of food coloring.

It looks like Ovaltine is low in Salicyclates?

So maybe Ovaltine and water?

Do you use No Fenol? My daughter drinks Juicy Juice with a touch of

No Fenol and is fine. Have you tried the whole milk so you aren't

getting the additives? We lost the milk hyper problem alot with NF

but totally with her drinking regular milk rather than reduced fat.

My son has the Caprisun Juice packs or white grape juice with a little

no fenol.

No artificial anything in them.

Yes - we just switched to whole organic milk last week and we take no

fenol with every meal. But, our doctor wants us to try the GFCF.

Thanks for all the great responses - I'll do a quick summary:

Ovaltine

Capri Sun

White grape juice

Gatoraide

Clear Powerade

Clear Cranberry Juice

sparkling water

crystal light

flavored water

orange soda

I think some of these still have phenols, but they may not be the

ones the kids are sensitive too and using no fenol provides another

level of safety. Thank you - it's nice to go from zero to 10 options.

I have found that my son has reactions to yellow dyes 5 & 6. From my research,

they are a coal tar derivative and they have a benzene chemical ring. My

question is - will no fenol help this sensitivity?

Pear and white grape are low phenol. Dilute them 50/50 with water, to

keep the yeast problem down.

My son would only drink water if it contained ice cubes. Then I

taught him how to get water out of the door of the refrigerator [we

have an ice maker with ice/water in the door]. That is fun for him,

so he will drink it without ice now.

You can try the clear varieties.

It helps some kids with artificials, but not mine.

I started getting the clear orange gatorade for my younger son. He

says it tastes more 'fruity' than the other - the taste is more

intense - so we add water to it. I consider this a bonus, but be

aware there may be a difference.

In case anyone else is avoiding artificial colorings/flavorings,

Star Bucks now have lollipops that are all naturally flavored, no

colorings or preservatives. We got some today and they were also

much more intense in fruit flavor. Good, but intense. Only 35 cents

each. They come in colored wrapper but the sucker is clear or has

just a faint natural coloring.

Do you have any idea if they are GFCF?

Thanks,

The label reads GFCF but you may need to call the company and hound

them about manufacturing or contamination if you are concerned about

that. The local place didn't know.
