Sugar causing gas makes me think of yeast issues http://www.danasview.net/yeast.htm >> Wheat and soy relates to sleep disturbances. Grapefruit > juice, peanut and tomato make him hyper. Some other stuffs cause some > gas. For hyper, consider phenols and also yeast http://www.danasview.net/phenol.htm > He is mercury and lead toxic, but we had problems with chelation > because he doesn´t tolerate any vitamin supplement. All vitamin and > oil supplements make him hyper. He tolerates well mineral supplements. My son did not tolerate supplements either. I started chelation and the only supplement I was giving him was enzymes. As chelation progressed, he tolerated more and more things, and I was able to add back supplements for a while. Now he no longer needs them. So if you want to consider chelation again, you can start slowly if you want, even if he does not tolerate supplements at this time. > Would you know which kind of enzyme is more likely to help him? With this description, I would recommend starting with No-Fenol enzyme http://www.houstonni.com/ You can consider others as things progress. Guest guest
Dear , I am not in a position really to give advice, just a parent, but I wanted to respond to your post because I've felt before that " everything " made my son react. In some ways, that is just the truth. everything does! But I've found a few ways of coping which I will share. And I, like you, have some great hopes for enzymes! Hard to know what you mean by " hyper " . Every 4 year old boy can be hyper at times. I assume you mean REALLY hyper. If he cannot take oil supplements, I assume you mean evening primrose and CLO or one of the DHA brands. He may have a problem digesting the oil, and the lipase in enzymes may help. My son gets VERY stimmy on Evening Primrose Oil and I have no idea why. He's okay on very small amounts of cod liver oil. For many weeks I gave him only very high quality omega 6 oils, like cold-pressed, organic sunflower oil. I did not cook it, I spoon fed him it like medicine. I started with 2 teaspoons/day then worked up to about 2 tablesppons. He hated it, but got used to it. I gave it to him with his gfcf pancakes every morning. When we'd gotten up to a tablespoon I just gave it to him with every meal. I also ground up flax seeds (which I'd let sit in a tiny bit of water overnight) and put them in his pancakes. I did the same with sunflower seeds, cashews, hazlenuts, whatever. I soaked them in salted water, dried them off, ground up a tablespoon or whatever, and added them to the pancakes, muffins, whatever I made for him. Then I added in the CLO later (although he was eating salmon once a week so he had a little fish oil in him anyway). he gets one little Kirkman caplet every other day, or every day depending on what else he's eating. The nuts/seeds have to be soaked (well, not the flax) for at least overnight in salty water to get rid of the enzyme inhibitors coating them. One bit of caution is to rotate seeds/nuts and pay attention to any sign of allergy! Do not soak peanuts and give them to your son. Peanuts must be cooked. You can cook them, but you must soak them first for 24 hours in salty water and then cook in a 50 degree celsius oven for 12-24 hours if you want to retain the enzymes. Don't give him peanut butter because peanuts have 2 different enzyme inhibitors on them. Almonds will make him stimmy probably because the high salicylates. Sesame seeds are an excellent source of calcium, but some can't cope with them. Certainly, they'd need to be soaked. All nuts/seeds may give your son runny stools. Or, as in son's case, they may sort out his constipation! There is usually a certain amount he will cope with in any case and you'll figure out what that amount is. If your son is laughing/running uncontrollably, you may try lactulose. This is only a milk sugar and not milk protein. It will reduce ammonia levels in the blood which may be causing hyperness. It is a milk anti-constipation drug as well, although wierdly some people with diarrhea use it for reasons I've not investigated. Another great food to give a slim child is coconut oil. It is full of lauric acid, which converts into monolaurin in the gut and is an excellent thing to kill bad bacteria, which you son probably has a problem with. My son gets about 3 tablespoons of coconut oil or " creamed coconut " which is gfcf. I put it in his pancakes, his muffins, you name it. I even make a coconut drink for him with a raw egg yolk in it and a banana. The raw egg debate is big, but we've been eating poached eggs here for years and never sick. Of course, they are my own hens and live in 4 acres of open fields. They do not suffer from overcrowding! My son was on the 9th percentile for weight when we started the gfcf diet. He's probably way about 25% now and he looks great. I think the nuts/oils/seeds/ have put a lot of weight on him, and of course they are full of goodness. They may not help your boy -- I don't know -- but he's obviously very sensitive and so you may have to hold off on any sort of drug therapy as yet and try to give him foods in a manner in which he can cope. I am sure enzymes will help, but haven't started them and cannot advise. Best to you, marti

We had excellent results with butyrates and I have heard of other people who have done just as well with AKG. Also, re digestion of fats: carnitne can help with this. It also reduces hypoglycemia. Now research is indicating that another form of carnitine, acetyl carnitine, provides these benefits while also crossing the blood brain barrier to help form acetylcholine. We have had good results with carnitine and intedn to try acetyl carnitine soon. Steve

We had excellent results with butyrates and I have heard of other people who have done just as well with AKG. We tried AKG because my daughter showed a defficiency on her OAT, but had horrible results with it. We started on an incredibly low dose, but she got very lethargic, stimmy, light/sound sensitive, even vomited. As soon as we discontinued it she bounced right back. We never saw any positives from it, but good to hear others do. - -- In , " steve_rotherham <srotherham@h...> " <srotherham@h...> wrote: > > > because the high salicylates.
