But yesterday my wholistic doctor called me and told me that basically, they've done all they can, it's not candida, I just must have low seratonin levels and should go back to a shrink and try new meds. Of course I don't like this, but have no more money to throw on vitamins and that that aren't working. I do have some 5htp in stock that my dentist told me to take but I was scared, so I did more research on it, and you are supposed to take 100mg 3x a day to see any difference but loads of people use it in place of SSRI's as they don't get any chemical side effects this way. I tried paxil for 8 days and nearly flipped out, hated it, celexa for one day was horrific, lithium for one day was bad. I've never had mental problems in the past so it was hard for me to accept this. My friends say I look and sound fine, but I know I'm not so I'm trying this 5htp for a while to see what happens before I try another chemical (which I don't want to). Guest guest
I was on Paxil for about a year and it was one of the things I believe contributed to the worsening of my candida. Guest guest
Hi Kathy - can you tell me what brand or type of DMAE you use?? Is it mixed in with something. I saw some vitamins at the GNC (I think) store the other night that were being marketed for Attention and they had DMAE in them. How much do you give your daughter? Did you have to start off slowly (I think I read that somewhere too). This is all new to me - something I just stumbled on the other day. How did you find out about this?? My son is also ADD inattentive - in 5th grade. Thanks Sue PS - do you use the enzymes too? > Sue, > > Hi. I use DMAE for my daughter who has ADD inattentive disorder. Sue I bought DMAE from my local health food store to try with my kids. #2 did not tolerate it. #1 told me after about 3-4 days that he was having erections during the night, sometimes almost painful. This is a reported side effect, so I stopped giving it. Good luck. Dana

Guest guest
Kathy (and others)- I saved your post from 15 November about the DMAE. I want to try it for my son, who is 6 1/2 years and about 50 pounds. I was wondering - what brand do you use and what is the recommended dosage and frequency of dosage? Is there a specific time that it should be given? With or without food? I purchased from my local HFS a brand by Country Life called Biochem. The bottle reads " Coenzymized DMAE 350 mg with PAK and Pantothenic Acid. " From the supplement facts it looks like the PAK is B6 and the Pantothenic Acid is d-calcium pantothenate. Sorry for bogging you down in details; my son is sensitive and I want to make sure this is okay for him. We tried the ADHD meds and they were a nightmare. Thanks for all your help! Guest guest
Hi Lori - this is Sue - lurking about and saw your question. WE too tried ADHD meds which were also a nightmare!!!!We started DMAE and Omega 3's with my 10 year old son about a month ago. We are using Attentive Child by Source Naturals. The directions go by weight. We started with one wafer a day in the morning to see what would happen and then went to 2 - one in the morning and one in the evening. We have had the best 2 weeks at home in a long time. (My son is ADHD -H) Some of the best advice I got from someone on this group was to join another group - ADHD _drug-free. I have learned so much - and if your issues are mainly ADHD related - you may want to go there. In the last month there have been tons of posts on DMAE. On another post I will send you a link to the DMAE site I used to get some info and also a link to the other group - I just can't figure out how to get it here without losing what I already typed. Guest guest
I don't know anything about DMAE or seizures, but that sounds like something you need to figure out! Guest guest
, We've also been dealing with seizures for a few years. DMAE was one supp I tried long ago that caused what I now refer to as 'pre- seizure' behavior: nasty, irritable, black is white kind of responses - sometimes leads to seizures, sometimes not. You may want to back off the dose and try a more gradual increase if you wish to keep using it. -- In , JLJukoski@... wrote: > > What effects have people here noticed with DMAE? Guest guest
Try giving extra magnesium to help process the DMAE better. I would also suggest cutting back to half a cap twice a day, then building back up to one in the evening and one at breakfast once you are happy with the lower dose. Guest guest
DMAE, not for us either, caused very spacey behaviors and staring spells. We were glad we used the 1/4 capsule rule to start anything. [ ] Re: DMAE , We've also been dealing with seizures for a few years.
