I don't know if you have a Trader Joe's near you but if you do their gluten free pasta is clearly made by Tinkyada (this is how many of TJ's products are-made by regular companies and repackaged with the TJ's label. Then TJ's charges a lower price based on that they can assure the company they don't have to compete with others for shelf space and sales). It doesn't explicitly say so on the package but its pretty obvious. Only available in spaghetti and penne but I'm pretty sure its cheaper than WF. On a side note, I noticed Glutino Frozen Individual Pizzas at Whole Foods tonight. I don't remember seeing them there before. Why? Because TJ's rice pasta does not reheat. It is simply awful cold, and falls apart when reheated. Tinkyada's does not. They do not taste remotely similar to me, nor are the pasta the same in shape or color. I WISH TJ's would carry Tinkyada's pasta because it's worth a cuople extra bucks - it's so much better. Funny how two ppl's taste buds can be so different - Heh. Maybe I am the only one who finds this difference in texture and taste! Thanks for the lead re: Glutino pizzas at WF. That's exciting, I will certainly check it out.
Guest guest
Sorry, it was the San Mateo store. They only had a '2 cheese' variety but you can always add whatever else you want. --- flatcat9@... wrote: > At which Whole Foods? > H. > In a message dated 8/24/06 8:37:33 PM, > vizlvr@... writes: > > > > On a side note, I noticed Glutino Frozen > Individual > > Pizzas at Whole Foods tonight. Guest guest
The pennes taste exactly the same to me. You have to make sure you're comparing the right tinkyada pasta as they make several types (rice, brown rice, enhanced with rice bran). The penne is not my favorite tinkyada shape either. The packaging is VERY similar and the TJs is also a 'product of canada'. Tinkyada recently made some changes to their packaging but before they did so the font on the back for the ingredient lists etc was identical. I still think the TJs pasta is Tinkyada... But who knows-and its unlikely either company will tell. --- Isaiah <isaiah.benjamin@...> wrote: > On 8/24/06, on <vizlvr@...> > wrote: > > " don't know if you have a Trader Joe's near you but > if you do their gluten free pasta is clearly made by > Tinkyada " > > That's interesting that you should say that, because > while I find TJ's rice > pasta very tasty and certainly much cheaper than > Tinkyada, I am almost > positive that they are not made by the same brand. > Why? Guest guest
Actually, you can order individual items. Do a search for " gluten free " on Amazon's home page and several categories will show, including the grocery and gourmet food categories. The categories do not neccessarily overlap each other in product offering, either. I think the grocery has more items in bulk and gourmet foods has a wider variety of GF brands. > > My husband just discovered that the new Amazon Grocery has a large > selection of Gluten Free items!
