Hello..

I don't use frozen vegetables as a rule, but there are frozen veggies out

there with no salt in them, and really pure, with no added chemicals, etc. I

could not get fresh greens anywhere one time, so I had purchased some frozen

collard greens, and all it was , was the collard greens, no salt, no sugar.

Peas are the worst. little slimey yucky green spots. I also don't do

brussel sprouts - probably the most foulest smelling vegetable and I don't

believe

it's really a food product.

I eat like all the kids do - too picky for words. I just finally got around

to learning to eat a salad in the past two years. And even that is iffy

sometimes.

My kids will eat veggies - more than I will. We never made them and my dh

would eat lots of raw things which they all loved, except for Reece.

I grate carrots or squash etc into meatballs, into rice, certainly into

soups.

I make fried patties of grated veggies (with an egg, chopped onion, parsley,

bread crumbs , salt and pepper) they never know what it is made of, lol, I

tell them it is made of love....

, they do like pies, so I stuff them with cooked veggies...

and occasionally they will agree to eat fresh veggies in a salad.

Hmmmm...that might work...if Braden ate meatballs, rice or soup. LOL!

ROTFL!!!!! My youngest (3) eats chicken nuggets from s or the

frozen popcorn type. He eats burgers from Mcs sometimes. He

eats hotdogs. And on rare occasion chicken noodle soup. That covers

the meats he will eat. lol. He will eat plain pasta or pasta w/

cheese. He will eat fries from a restaurant, but not from home. He

eats no fruit. No veggies. Unless we count pickles and catsup. He

eats alot of breads, crackers, and cheese. And he will eat most

chips, cookies, cakes, and icecream. And added age just makes him

more picky. He use to eat just about anything we gave him except meat

and green veggies. My oldest (9 9/10) eats most fast food and frozen

foods. At home he will eat most plain meats we fix. He will eat

potatos cooked most ways except mashed. He will eat corn. And

recently he has learned to eat raw veggies such as lettuce, spinach,

and cucumber. He will eat some fruits such as strawberries, grapes,

and apples. He eats breads. And of course junk food. Nothing can be

mixed though. Not even cake w/ icecream. No combined foods at all. He

will eat pasta. He will eat cheese, but not mac-n-cheese. Soups and

casseroles make him gag. A green bean makes him throw up. And cooked

carrots are right there too. Again as a youngster he'd eat most

things except green veggies. Makes life fun! BTW dh and I love green

beans, brocoli, etc. We also like soups and casseroles. Neither of us

are overly picky.

All good suggestions. I've gotten quite inventive, but they stay one

Now there's an idea. It's worth a shot. My oldest does love his

I bribe my 3 yro with? His comprehension level is that of a 1 yro.

Any ideas?

Having been forced to eat veggies as a child, I don't recommend this method.

It can really backfire and cause food problems on it's own, especially with

kids like ours who are prone to having issues about so many things. A number

of kids with an ASD do have food issues and it isn't likely to be helped by

force. It can set up a lifetime of food issues just over a stupid broccoli or

something that really isn't worth it.

Food is just one of those areas that is a personal choice for each person.

We all have our likes and dislikes and I think we need to respect that about

each other. getting kids to try new things is a great idea, I think. But

forcing them to eat things they hate is not.

I also don't know how I would force Reece to eat anything. He eats nothing

but bread, cereal and mac-n-cheese. I try picturing us making him eat

something else and all I see is limbs flying and gagging noises. If we were to

threaten him or say - eat this or we will take away your bionicle - I can

already

say that this won't work the intended result at all. he will hyper focus on the

bionicle and never connect eating with his toy. Then we have a kid who not

only won't eat a veggie but now he's hysterical over his toy.

On another note and speaking of food issues, Reece has hyper focused lately

on Mc's. He has decided that the clown is evil and he cannot and will

not eat any food from that place. In addition, he screams whenever we drive

past a McD's, lol, as if that doesn't happen every two blocks around here! To

make him go nuts, his siblings will whisper, 'you like Mc's' and this will

set him off into a rage. Can you imagine? Mc's. lol.

well - (you have to whine this part) myyyyyy Mom used to make character

shaped pancakes and she now uses cookie cutters and sandwich cutter (yes -

they do make them now!) to make sandwiches for the grandkids. My dd won't

eat miracle whip or mayo on anything EXCEPT - Three diamond white tuna in

water - with miracle whip mmm mmm mmm that is some good eatin' LOL!! it

is as good or better than chicken salad. it doesn't have any fishy taste at

all - and it has to be Three Diamond - White tuna IN WATER - no light tuna -

no oil - white in water only!!

My kids are never fooled by the shape. Whatever the shape, the will

reject it. Also, I've tried that old trick of getting the

kids " involved " in the cooking. My kids LLOOOOOVVEE to help me

cook....but they still won't eat it! LOL!

I forgot to mention that Braden will eat salad - mostly limp

lettuce - nothing crunchy, with ranch dressing on it. And once in

awhile I can get him to eat broccoli. He will also occasionally eat

VERY thinly sliced carrots dipped in ranch dressing.

OMG, a that is what I'm up against to. There is just no way to

get things past them. They will either find the sliver or taste the

miniscule difference in the food if I blend it in. They are regular

food bloodhounds.

Yeah, that IS a great idea, but I also don't think it would work. I

think back to my childhood where we were just simply required to eat

the vegetables. We had to eat one of the type of vegetable for every

year of our age...boy did I dread birthdays...LOL! To this day I

won't touch a lima bean. YYYYYUUUUUKKKKKK...I'm gagging just

thinking about choking those things down!!

Yeah - but that is the fun of having your own kids - making them do

all the things we had to do. hahahaha - oh yeah

Seriously though - I think making them eat some vegetables is important

for more than just the obvious reason - it is healthy - but as Mom always

said " Go get your birth certificate and you show me on there where it

guaranteed you life was going to be fair "

I think teaching our kids that there are just some things you have to do in

life

whether you want to or not - is just the way it is. No - it isn't always

pleasant,

but some things just have to be done. They don't want to go to the dentist

either, but we make them do that. They don't like to get needles and

vaccinations - but too bad! we make them do that too.

so - i do it because i think it is going to benefit them - and i do it

because

i hope they will " grow to like them " LOL!! (that's what my Mom used to say)

and i do it because - people have done it for years and to my knowledge,

no children have died because they had to eat green beans or peas or

beets - oh yeah - beets are really good the way my mom makes them -

i will forward the recipe - ooh company gotta go

all true...true, true, true.... (feel free to tap along with me!!

LOL!)and exactly the way I thought I'd parent them. But after trying

to force to eat something a couple times and having him throw up

all over the place, I figured that maybe, just maybe, I had better use

a different approach with my kids!! LOL...and BTW, used to be a

painfully picky eater and is MUCH better today. He loves to try new

foods now. So I am just holding on and praying that Braden will

eventually mature in that area too...and we are addressing it with

the psych, as I think I mentioned. I'm supposed to take them to Old

Country Buffet again this week and Braden is supposed to try a new

food. Wish us luck. He told the psych that he would, but he is

balking now. However, I still think he might do it. He is

definitely trying to be more positive and cooperative. The

improvement is small, but it's apparent. And I am not taking it for

granted. Lord knows when school starts anything could happen!
