Oh I am SO disappointed... I was planning on dragging DH there. This

is sad news... But thank you so much for telling us. Now I know not to

go... I wonder if they knew that they were actively losing business by

this change, if they would change back? Surely vegetarians weren't

walking out because their things were fried in the same oil as fish? I

was a vegetarian for a long time, and wouldn't have left for that

reason, but I suppose with my other dietary issues I didn't feel that

I could be that particular. *sigh* Guess it's back to daydreaming

about a trip to Scotland for GF fish and chips weekend. :(

They don't care about losing business, the place is always packed,

with a normal 20 minute wait. I think since it was the chef's decision

to change it, that the prior chef had more knowledge of the issues,

and is probably the one that pushed for it. They really didn't care

that we didn't stay and eat. I was sad cause it was a special outing,

but I'll just have to make some at home :)

I'm sure that veggitarians WOULD walk out because there food was fried in fish oil. Most veggies I know would have a huge problem with that. Sounds like they need THREE fryers! Or they could just go GF with ALL their batter!

The Vegetarian thing puzzled me initially, as it is a fish and chips

restaurant, but this may explain some things:

Just wanted to thank all the people who are YELPing my restaurant. It

means a lot to the staff and myself that we have been welcomed with

such opens arms. We are getting a new chef on December 20th. Because

of this, the menu will get a tweaking in the most positive direction.

He specializes in vegetarian and vegan food. I am very excited about

the future product. We will still have our fish and seafood.

Somehow I don't think the all GF thing is going to happen, and three

fryers sounds like a kitchen remodel to me. Ah well.

I think that is an excellent idea. Restaurants should be favorably

rewarded for offering gluten free options. I think we might want to be

careful not to hit those that aren't as accomodating with too heavy of

a stick, though.. flies and honey, blah blah blah. ;) So, anybody have

any positive recommendations for places in San Francisco that are

especially good for gluten free menus or happening to have gluten free

stuff? I've got a handle on the chain types, but would like to know

what specific mom n' pop, vegetarian, international, etc. places I

should be frequenting when we go to SF...

Just to clarify- the oil was not fish oil, but fish was fried in the

same oil as other things.
