Guest guest
I just posted the following review: Sadly, I am unable to write a review. Why, you ask? Because this restaurant has turned its back on people with Gluten Intolerance/Celiac Disease. Since they now refuse to cater to the 1 in 133 people who get horrifically ill when they consume gluten, I will never be able to eat there, as their food is (now) poison - literally - to me. I'm glad that vegans can now eat there, but I am very disappointed and bitter that I cannot - especially when there are already so few places/foods we can eat - and NO fish & chips *anywhere* in the Bay Area we can eat - and I had been looking SO forward to going... It means a lot to the staff and myself that we have been welcomed with such opens arms. We are getting a new chef on December 20th. Because of this, the menu will get a tweaking in the most positive direction. He specializes in vegetarian and vegan food. I am very excited about the future product. We will still have our fish and seafood. (Owner's response on yelp at http://www.yelp.com/biz/2zqqYMV4Y8-M5dpYKr2NYA) Somehow I don't think the all GF thing is going to happen, and three fryers sounds like a kitchen remodel to me. Ah well. > > I'm sure that veggitarians WOULD walk out because there food was fried in fish oil. Most veggies I know would have a huge problem with that. Sounds like they need THREE fryers! Or they could just go GF with ALL their batter! >
Guest guest
Looking at Yelp, we could probably use this site well to our advantage by writing and reviewing on our gluten-free dining experiences. Perhaps we can promote and persuade through this medium. I see one, now two of us have already posted something at Yelp's Weird Fish listing. I already posted two decent reviews from the past couple days in there - Uncle Yu's in Livermore (I wrote them and they are very accommodating) and the new P.F. Chang's in Pleasanton at Stoneridge. The pen is indeed mightier than the sword. Or in this case, the fillet knife... -- Joe http://sanbeiji.com/ " Every society honors its live conformists, and its dead troublemakers. Guest guest
I agree – I know my post about weird fish was a little bitter (heck – I even acknowledged that). Normally I wouldn’t post something like that about a restaurant, except that they had willfully chosen to stop catering to our demographic. I’m not gonna go picket them or anything, but I thought the owner should know that he has now alienated a large demographic of people who have FAR less options of where to eat than vegans. Restaurants should be favorably rewarded for offering gluten free options. I think we might want to be careful not to hit those that aren't as accomodating with too heavy of a stick, though.. flies and honey, blah blah blah. So, anybody have any positive recommendations for places in San Francisco that are especially good for gluten free menus or happening to have gluten free stuff? I've got a handle on the chain types, but would like to know what specific mom n' pop, vegetarian, international, etc. places I should be frequenting when we go to SF... BTW, my yelp page is http://lillyth.yelp.com. Feel free to link to it & check out reviews (two for right now, but more to come) > >> > >> I'm sure that veggitarians WOULD walk out because there food was > > fried in fish oil. Guest guest
When I was a vegetarian I would have been disturbed by the fish oil. Even now that I am an omnivore, I would walk out if I ordered non-fish dinner and my French fries tasted like fish. I had that happen in the Philippines once - something at a Mexican restaurant that tasted like fish. Ewwww!!!
