Hi Everyone,

I do not post much as I am still on a big learning curve even after 9 ys of

having a child dx'd w/autism.But today was a really great, blessed day for me and

I wanted to share and give encouragement to others like myself with older

children.I have 5 kids,2 are ASD.My dd age 11 had been really struggling and

regressing even after gfcfsf/supps/vits and treatment for strep, possibly

Pandas. Her speech in the last year has been mostly scripting. She has been

removed from her classroom on a Dr recommendation for 2 months now.I or my FIL

have been working with her, mostly on reading comprehension. She is HFA,and on

about a 2nd grade level.Anyway.today she read a book about Abe Lincoln(she chose

the book)and we talked about it,I asked questions and then thought to ask ,Is

there anything you do not understand? And she said yes, what does this word

mean?and turned the pages and showed me the word! Then while we were walking in

the neighborhood I wanted to show her some new construction, and she expressed a

desire to have a house like that.I very simply explained that since I did not

work it would be to expensive.About 5 minutes later she asked where her dad

was.I told her and she said he really need to be at work instead(inference?)Then

she asked if I came out of my body(cause I am the Mommy)I explained that I had a

mommy but she had died, and that she had met her when she was 2.She said I didnot

talk then.I said no you didn't I wish I knew why.She said because I was angry

and had to work all the time.We started aba from age 2-5 for her.I asked her

do you want to know why you had to work so hard? She said yes,so I told her she

had autism and that learning to talk was very hard work. And she said yes until I

was 6 then it is easy. Now my dd catalogs dates for b/days etc but this just

astounded me.I do not remember being 2...And she seems to have begun

recognizing that she is different.Of course I want more tommorow, but if I do

not get more I am just grateful for a little insight into what she is thinking.I

have not tried chelation or b/12 yet,but am going to,I do not know what is

causing these gains, the diet,1/1 at home, removal from an autism

class,antibiotics,enzymes,?But I am happy

I am very happy for you Theresa! Your story is very touching. I

know we all look for those moments when our children open up alittle

bit more. I remember when my son would just talk at me but not with

me. I'm sure it's a very good feeling after so much time spent

worrying and working for something better for your child, that with

encouragement and hard work she has moments she opens up and express

herself in ways you have always wanted to hear. I hope this

continues for you and gets better and better.
