Guest guest
I would not want to scare you, but no doubt you are aware that Rhogam is a Human Blood Plasma derivative. On RXLIST.COM, I found this disconcerting comment about Rhogam: " This study revealed that Rh-negative donors, of whom an estimated 55-60% had received Rho(D) Immune Globulin (Human) for pregnancy-related indications, had prevalence and incidence viral marker rates similar to those of Rh-positive female donors who had not received Rho(D) Immune Globulin (Human). Even after the fractionation and virus-filtration steps, there remains a risk of contracting blood-borne pathogens from a plasma-derived product. " That last sentence worries me, frankly. The site also lists some side effects of this treatment: " Local AE reactions include swelling, induration, redness and mild pain at the site of injection, and a small number of patients have noted a slight elevation in temperature. Rarely, these reactions have been treated with antihistamines or corticosteroids. Systemic reactions to RhoGAM or MICRhoGAM are extremely rare. There have been no reported fatalities due to anaphylaxis or any other cause related to RhoGAM or MICRhoGAM administration. As with any Rho(D) Immune Globulin (Human), administration to patients who have received Rh-positive red blood cells may result in signs and symptoms of a hemolytic reaction, including fever, back pain, nausea and vomiting, hypo- or hypertension, hemoglobinuria/emia, elevated bilirubin and creatinine and decreased haptoglobin. " I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV like Sen. Fritz, but if you continue to have these problems I would suggest that you talk to your doctor again, or get a 2nd opinion, as you could be having a reaction to what amounts to extracts of someone else's blood. However, the good news is that he ran a blood test (as he should have) probably to rule out elebated bilirubin and creatinine levels, and it came back OK. No doubt that your doctor gave this to you because you are RH Negative and you absolutely had to have this, right? So, don't panic based just on this information. Panic will not help, and do note that other info on this same page (see link below) says that reactions are like 1 in 60,000 persons, which is higher than some vaccines, but still not real high for a blood product. See: http://rxlist.com/cgi/generic2/rhogam_ad.htm Hope this helps. Guest guest
Did you get the mercury-free one? (WinRho) Might be worth checking into acupuncture or cranial sacral therapy as long as the practitioner knows you're pregnant.
