Guest guest
This (below) came just before dinner time and we went to Bistro Liaison – it is wonderful! Really, really good food, and the waitstaff all knows what gluten is AND exactly what is in each dish. And a lovely ambiance as well. Thank you so much, Sophie and !!!! We will be going back often! Guest guest
You probably know this and (below) you were speaking in a sort of shorthand, but for the sake of new people who might be confused. Pure chocolate does not contain gluten. However, some chocolate might be processed with a gluten-containing ingredient, or a commercially made chocolate mousse might contain a gluten additive, or accidental gluten contamination might occur. (A classic chocolate mousse contains no gluten -- just chocolate, cream, eggs., vanilla, pinch of salt.) H. Guest guest
add: I got a tiny reaction.... my only bad dehavior was the chocolate mousse at Liaison. I KNOW I'm reacting to gluten in chocolate, but I wanted to take a chance.. (and lets say the wine was so good that by the time I was proposed a chocolate mousse, I didnt think much ;-) ) So if anybody wants to phone ahead, ask specificaly which brand of chocolate they use for the mousse - OR choose a none gluten dessert (great sorbets, creme brulee etc). Guest guest
Liaison is really, really good and they try really, really hard, but it is not a GF kitchen and cross contamination can certainly happen. I was warned away from the Beef B… (stew)… (can’t spell French) because it is classically made with a (wheat) flour dredge. Guest guest
yes - sorry. I meant I react to certain BRAND of chocolate which are labelled either " contain gluten " or " may contain " . So say (random example) they use hershey chocolate chips and I reacted - or they could have used Ghirardelli chocolate chips, and I wouldnt have reacted. About x-con in the food - it seems that if I dine early enough so that plates, pans and like are clean from the day before and not " speedy cleaned/wiped " between 2 clients, I'm fine. And usually, I insist twice, and ask to speak to the chef so he understand that his effort will make my dinner heaven - or hell. Now, I know it's not a good behavior to put myself in xcon or regular contamination situation... but it was our anniversary, and I accepted a little chance of a little contamination because I felt *they got the message* . If someone here has terrible reactions to the smallest contamination, I would of course NOT recommand to go to a " regular " restaurant - ever. On the other hand, I'm very very sensitive... and that specific x-con was barely noticable. I posted it only to be honest ;-) - because there is a small doubt (I ate in 3 restaurants in 2 days...). So again, phone and ask, and take your own decision. Guest guest
I made reservations for my anniversary in 10 days. The lady I spoke to (Marie) was really great. She wrote all my questions down, then put me on hold, came back with most of the answers, and took my number down so she could get back to me with the rest. I’ll let you know how our dinner goes! Oh, and she also said she would be checking with the folks they get their cheese from as to whether their bleu cheese is safe for us to eat.
