It would depend on what you are using for a chelator.

[ ] Appropriate Supplements for Chelation????? Please

help.

Hi all,

I'm preparing to chelate my 3 yr old son with pddnos. He is gf/cf,

on digestive enzymes at one capsule per meal and several

supplements. He used to be on supernuthera (1 tsp) and cod liver oil

(1 tsp) for about six months until recently because he is now

refusing it - even when mixed with his apple juice. My son's dandr

told me to add (in addition to supernuthera and codliveroil): liquid

dmg (at 4 tsp per day), liquid zinc (1 tsp per day), magnesium

glycinate powder (1/2 tsp), calcium powder (1/4 tsp), crushed b3

niacinmide (1 tsp), and a probiotic at 1 capsule per day. He is

also on b12 shots twice per week (which he is able to take, because

it's injected).

My questions is: My son is only able to take all powder forms

(magnesium, calcium and probiotic and enzyme because it's hidden in

his soynutbutter in addition to his b12 shots. But he is not

getting in the supernuthera, codliveroil, zinc liquid, dmg liquid.

I'm anxious to start chelating him, will he be ok with what he is

taking now without supernuthera, dmg, and zinc for chelation?. Or

are they necessary for chelation? Could I just add a regular

chewable multivitamin?

Thanks,

budsmom

I'm not even sure where to start. I'm considering DMSA or ALA

transdermal forms. I'm also trying to figure out which would be a

best form for my son??????? And, if so, what does he need for

supplements.

Hi Budsmom,

We moved away from the Supernuthera because we couldn't get it in our

son, and I was tired of fighting the battle over something that

wasn't really sure was the best mix for him anyway. I ended up

making my own base multivitamin/mineral (I make enough for a week and

then divide it into seven, then administer that, with enzymes, three

times a day in almond butter, pureed pears, whatever). I then add

the stuff that needs to be kept away from other stuff to the

morning/afternoon/evening doses, as required. It is a pain in the

butt (but no more so than all of the other stuff we do :-)) and, in

fact, takes less time this way since I mix it in bulk. I get all of

my son's supplements in capsule rather than liquid form (or where

necessary, I get pills and crush them in a mortar and pestle).

Kirkman and other places have DMG and Zinc and a lot of other stuff

in capsule form, in case you want to go that route.

He should be okay, depending on which chelator you use. Best to try

to give selenium and/or vitamin C, which are anti-oxidants and help

clear the removed metals from the blood.

A lot of people use both. Andy recommends to start with DMSA alone and then do

both. DMSA is good for metals not in the brain, ALA gets the brain metals.

Some do only ALS as well. Whatever you are more comfortable with. There are

supplements that are recommended, they should be listed in the FAQ...I think.

Hi there,

The main thing during chelation is to make sure he's getting enough

minerals, as these are depleted. The biggest concern I have is when you

say he's not taking zinc. This is one of the major ones that is stripped

out of the body. You may want to consider some other forms of the minerals

that he might like better to get all the minerals in, including selenium,

as Dana said, and the other trace minerals, which are also important --

there are some liquid forms out there that are like water, that you just

have to put a few drops of into a drink (E-lyte brand), or you could try

Brainchild's Spectrum Support minerals and LiquiZinc. Both are yummy,

especially the LiquiZinc, but I don't know how resistent he is to taking

liquids. At some point, you may have to insist that he take some things,

perhaps with an oral syringe? That's what we had to do when my guy was

small. We were very matter of fact about it and told him this was medicine

that he needed, and soon it became routine. If you do start chelating,

watch him for signs of mineral deficiency - pale, dark circles under the

eyes, biting fingernails/chewing on everything, behavior " off " , low energy,

etc. Also, run a red blood cell minerals every few months, to make sure

the levels are staying high enough. This is the most important safety

check during chelation, imo.

As far as vitamins, I don't think a multi will cut it. You don't

absolutely have to have vitamins going in to chelate. However, it will

help speed his recovery if you can figure out a way to get both vitamins,

other minerals and fish oil into him. Maybe you need a new tool, instead

of the Super Nu. There are a number of other decent products out there. I

work for Brainchild, so you can imagine which ones my favorites are :-) but

here are three companies whose products you might want to consider. Maybe

you could order some samples from each, and see how the flavor thing seems,

and whether you think you could get any of these products into him:

Brainchild Nutritionals (liquid form)

http://www.brainchildnutritionals.com/Brainchild_Nux.html (I would suggest

ordering Spectrum Support II with PAK to start with)

Spectrum Biogenetics (powdered form) ( Payne and Megson)

http://www.spectrumbiogenics.com

Awaken Nutrition (liquid form) http://www.awakennutrition.com/

Good luck!!

Hey Terri, this is my son's bizarre oddity #2635. He appears to have

been mineral toxic in almost all minerals. There were only 3 minerals

that I was able to add with success. The others all caused

regression, and in fact using IP6 [a mineral depleter] has been

wonderful for my son.

Do you have any info on this?

I give my kids zinc with kirkmans zinc sulfate cream. That is an easy

painless way to get the zinc in which is really important when chelating.

Plus my kids take kirkmans liquid zinc and all by itself it actually tastes

really good, they actually request it.
