Sensitivities: SideEffects of Chelation

My daughters have developed sensitivities that are clearly more

problematic than they were prior to chelation. Both girls (twins)

have been chelating for 1 year. We are currently on round 50 (we

missed 2 weeks due to broken leg and tonsils). We've used DMSA with

ALA every three hours for three days, then four days off. Our

daughters started with some sound sensitivities but never walked

around with their hands over their ears. They also did some toe

stepping which disappeared after dietary elimination. Recently, one

girl has developed such hypersensitivity to sounds, e.g., dogs

barking or sister screaming, that she needs to wear hearing

protectors. The other girl grabs her feet all of the time.

I understand that some think that magnesium deficiency is one

possible reason for hearing sensitivities. And Rimland, Baker,

Pangborn and others have reported that B-6 supplements without

magnesium will cause tingling in toes and fingures. So, one thought

was that they are wasting magnesium. They have been supplementing

with Magnesium Citrate at approximately 400 mg per day per child.

They also get roughly 160 mg of B-6 per day.

Any thoughts? Do such sensitivities occur during chelation, i.e.,

is this an expected side effect? Any alternative theories as to why

my girls may have developed these sensitivities?

Thanks!

For my son and me, this is yeast.

j & k,

my 6 year old dtr started the same sound sensitivity right away with the td

dmps. at the same time she started really hearing what we were saying and

following commands appropriately. like go get your shoes or coat. before that

she would bring me everything but what i asked her for. our DAN! doctor thought

that this was not necessarily a bad sign but that she was letting more in. we

are now 10 months on td-dmps and she still has the sounds sensitivity but the

auditory training music cd helps alot. angie

For my two boys this means a yeast flare up. After attacking yeast

the sound sensitivity stops.

Yes, they do. My son (who types on a computer) tells me that some cycles

everything starts to be too loud, other cycles he gets dizzy just turning

his head, other cycles his eyes go in and out of focus, etc. etc. These

things come and go as mercury is moved from various places in the brain.

This meant yeast overgrowth for my son.

Yes, yeast is a common and expected side effect of chelation.

Hi Barb, Your post is very informative for me! It's great that your

son can communicate his experiences. I have chelated my son for nine

rounds. I took him off for what was supposed to be 11 days before

preschool started instead of the usual four days off...it took me

sooo long to battle the yeast, even tho I was using a variety of

yeast protocols. It's been over two weeks and I haven't been able to

chelate him again. He is just starting to become calm again. I don't

think the yeast is completely gone, but I'm not sure at this point.

It seems to me that my son did awful on dmsa and ala chelation, I did

use Andy's protocol and gave him low doses every three hours, four at

night. I thought he was doing ok until I see the difference now.

Actually it was a week off of the chelators when he freaked out soo

badly in a grocery store that I had to leave everything behind and

gradually carry him out. He was worse than he's ever been. I had to

hold him down in a crouched position to try and calm him without

being bitten or kicked or hit. Other times on the way out of the

store I held his hands up and let him jump and scream hoping that he

would get some of it out so we could proceed out the door. It was

terrible. I can say that I am more afraid of re-starting chelation

now than ever! I had been giving him minerals, high zinc-60 mg,

selenium, potassium and magnesium. He still cannot handle B's, yet

his phenol intolerance is gone! I have added Gaba and now it is

seeming to help. I was treating yeast, GSE, Oil of oregano.. and

giving probiotics. I don't know, for the first time in a while I'm

at a loss. I did get his hair analysis re done and I will be getting

the results back tomorrow, hopefully it will help me know what to do

next.

Thanks, Stacey

A couple of thoughts. After giving GSE, does he get worse? If so, try

giving activated charcoal. If he's better within a half hour, then you

know that yeast die-off is the problem. In the beginning I had to take

weeks off from chelation to get yeast back under semi-control too --

it does eventually get better.

Same deal here. n's at round 56 and *still can't tolerate B2 or

B6. B1, B3, and B5 though are fine and helpful.

n couldn't tolerate probiotics until about round 30, you might

try dropping them or trying a different kind.

--- Hi, I just got my son's second hair test back and was surprised

with some of the results. We have done nine rounds of chelation,

most of it with DMSA and ALA, per Andy's protocol. I wrote yesterday

about our trials with chelation and I do think the yeast battle made

chelation very difficult for us. The hair analysis results have also

shown that even tho I was supplementing my 40 lbs son with 60 mg of

zinc, usually spread throughout the day, his zinc not only didn't get

better.. it got worse..and his high copper levels also got worse! I

am assuming this created a lot of issues with my son along with the

yeast. His calcium, which was in toxic levels as per the first hair

analysis is now in the normal range. There has been some improvement

in the other minerals but not as much as I would like. This hair

test was done four months after his first one. I chelated for nine

weeks of it. I am thinking that I will need to stop for a while and

get his zinc and copper ratio's in the normal range..How long does

this generally take?? I'd almost like him to have a bit too much zinc

before I start again, because of how quickly zinc is depleted! He was

in the red before, but now he is off the charts! I was surprised at

this result considering my diligence in supplementing with zinc.

As far as toxic elements, he now shows that he is eliminating

arsenic, this didn't show up at all in his first hair test. His lead

levels are also quite high! Luckily his aluminum is lower. I am

seeing many more toxic elements being excreted than what even showed

up on the first. I am seeing a small amount of mercury excreted, but

no mercury showed up on his first one. I have read that mercury is

one of the last metals to excrete..I think, am I right? Does any one

know where I can find more info on this? Is there actually a

particular order that metals excrete?

Thanks so much!!
