Guest guest
Desperately Seeking Heavy Duty Stand Mixer. I anxiously awaited my bagel mix from Ms. Robens, only to find out that a heavy duty stand mixer was required. Does anyone in SF have one that I may use? I would be happy to give you bagels in return. I've gone 8 years w/o a bagel!! Pure torture!! Please prevent this travesty from continuing. Yes, I have considered buying one. But since I have no idea if I will be any good at making them, or that I'll like making them, I'd like to borrow one for now. Besides, I have a tiny kitchen. And I did mail-order some that were terrible. I really want to make fresh ones. Sharon
Guest guest
Hello! Sorry I don't live in SF--I just got back from visiting there again on the 25th!! Therefor I am no help in your effort to borrow a mixer-however I can recommend a pretty good one, in my opinion. Enjoy life brand has frozen bagels-I've tried the toasty onion and the cin. raisin ones and both were very good. Guest guest
Hi there! Even if the GF bagel recipe you have doesn't work out, I think you'll really find that a sturdy stand mixer (I recommend Kitchenaid) is well worth the investment.(Tiny kitchen and all!) Have you tried making homemade GF(yeast) bread in general? They are a million times better than anything you can buy, and usually cheaper- especially if you assemble it from a recipe and not a mix. Our GF flour blends are so heavy they burn out little hand mixers in no time flat, if they work at all. It seems that they start at about $100 on up on Ebay, but Craig's list might have better deals.. I think they fall under the category of something that can be cleaned adequately enough to be re-used for gluten free baking... Costco also sometimes offers a reasonably priced new one. BTW if the reubens bagel isn't good, Bette Hagman has tons of bagel recipes in her books that are pretty good. (But, a little time intensive for me). I think you would find you would need a stand mixer for them as well. Also, I have recently been eating Kinnikinnick white rice bagels. I keep them frozen, defrost in microwave and then toaste. I like them, and you don't need a mixer! I'm not sure where you ordered the ones that you didn't like... But they might be worth a try. It costs $10 shipping from their web site (all the way from Canada!), or there is Harvest House in Concord that carries tons of Kinnikinnick products, including bagels. (But call beforehand to check!) Desperately Seeking Heavy Duty Stand Mixer. > > > > I anxiously awaited my bagel mix from Ms. Robens, only to find out that a heavy duty > stand mixer was required.
