Hello,

I had my jaw/nose and cheek bone surgery 14 weeks ago. I am happy with the

results of the surgery. For a few weeks now I have been battling a loosing

battle with an infection so on friday i had an EVA nasendoscopy where I was put

under and the surgeons were able to take a look at my sinuses and around the

plates and screws without causing me any pain and discomfort in the process.

They cut open my sinuses more to see if that will help, they also drained what

infection they could see away. They were able to see that several plates and

screws are infected, but the bone graft hasn't healed.

So they decided to drain as much of the infection as they could and clean the

plates ot see if this will help as they are unable to take the plates out right

now. If it doesn't clear up which it doesn't seem to be doing then they will

have no choice but to remove the plates and put new one's in and possibly re-do

the bone graft. The pharyngeal flap that I have in place to aid speech is no

longer working because of the extent of the surgery and the upper jaw being

braught forwards so much. So I now sound very nasally which is something I

dreaded the most prior to the surgery, but they will be able to do another

surgery to repair the flap and do it a different way.

Right now it seems I will need a few more surgeries but first I need to get over

this one. The surgery on friday has left me very sore and swollen and not ot

mention the bruises! I was supposed to see my ortho on Monday but due to the

surgery I had to cancel as I was in hospital until late saturday evening and I

am so sore right now that there was no way she could do anything. I was supposed

to be banded shut as I am beginning to have a relapse and my jaw is in almost

the same position as it was pre-op. I see my surgeon on Tuesday to see what the

next step will be I will also have an MRI scan and a CT scan done as well. I did

notice that on friday he wrote on my notes class III malocclusion I don't know

what this mean so if anyone has any insight I would be greatfull. I was going to

ask him but I was all preped for surgery and was a knock out LOL!!!
