SCD or GAPS for our family?

Hi all,

Well, I ordered Elaine's book (can't wait for it to arrive!), which was highly

recommended to me by a friend. But then yesterday a different friend

recommended the GAPS diet to me, so now I don't know what to do! I seriously

think we've got candida toxicity going on and leaky gut. We've been gluten free

for close to a year, and semi-dairy free for about 3-4 months (mostly dairy

free, but ice-cream is my weakness, so that about once a week, which kills me

every time, so you'd think I'd learn and quit my addiction, but I only have

" crave " it when I'm really depressed --- can you say " vicious cycle " ?)

My family has shown issues with eggs, dairy, grains (meaning all gluten plus

corn and rice), peanuts, and soy. I'm also VERY sensitive to sugars (it makes

my candida increase immediately).

Sooo, with all of that said, I've read that the GAPS is very similar to SCD,

except they cut out even casein. Also, from what I've read, it takes about a 2

year commitment to really " heal " I guess. The website for GAPS is also very

step-by-step directive (which I like!).

Now obviously I have not received " Breaking the Vicious Cycle " yet, so I'm

hoping it is really point blank in what to do, when, for how long, etc. But

other than that, does anyone have any suggestions as to which specific diet we

should do, based on our specific issues?

Thanks!

Carissa

I'm on sort of a combo diet of SCD and GAPS. Namely, what works for

me. THe diets are very similar, really. And there aren't and

hard and fast rules beyond avoiding the illegals list. Some people

(apparently, not me) do well with all the legal foods, some do not.

I've been on it for a year and still can't handle dairy very well, for

instance. We all have to do a lot of trial and error so what you

have is guidelines here. Some people are very slow being able to add

foods in successfully and some can go faster.

Don't worry about your sensitivity to sugar. You are about to give that

up, along with the grains. If you know the family has issues with eggs

and dairy, then just don't try those for some time.

Get back with any questions,
