Hello Crosby's dad (and I think your daughter is Amelia??)

I absolutely adored meeting , and was present in the room

when Dr. H talked with and her mother. Your wife is very

astute, and her worry is quite common. As I am sure she has told

you, being severely underweight can have negative consequences.

Getting our kids to gain weight is probably the one thing we all

stress about the most.

I would recommend that you and call tollfree MAGIC and

request document #H-68, titled " Handouts from " Feeding & Nutrition

for Underweight Children " -- 2003 MAGIC Convention Swan, C. &

Baranoski, C., Easter Seals "

There is another handout from the 2004 convention, #H-106 " Handouts

from " But My Child Isn't Eating " - 2004 MAGIC Convention " by Ann

Guild

The latter handouts are more about feeding therapy information, and

offers practical info about ways to get your infant/toddler/child to

eat more; as well as a separate document with descriptive info on

the oral mechanism that is involved with the eating process.

The key is to find food that is high in calories but low in volume.

HA!!!! For the older child, in the " diet section " of the grocery

store, makes no sense, I found these protein bars. They are

called " Snickers Marathon Protein Performance Bar " . She likes all

the flavors. One bar has 20g of protein and 18 grams of complex

carb (23 g of sugar, but it tastes good...) It also has 290

calories!!!! And is the size of a thicker granola bar!!!!

I don't think Crosby will be old enough to eat this bar, but maybe

someone else will. It costs $1.29 but for after athletic

activities, can be ideal.

Anyway, - I hope that these two documents will start you on

the right path. Dr. Harbison will also help you.

Hi - I thought I would chime in on 's great suggestion about

nutritional bars. I've actually bought Glucerna Meal Bars - they

are for diabetics and I've used this occassionally when Ian will eat

nothing else. He likes the chocolate peanut bar. Obviously, you

have to be careful with allergy issues - but, just an idea for you.

My best to all of you. I think we all go through our good times,

tough times, scary times, sad times, and even happy times. It can

be very exhausting! <grin> But, we all make it through everything

and we all have each other here. Please remember to post about

anything you want to talk about. We are here for you.

Hugs.

- H
