Periactin and abdominal migraines

I just wanted to post something interesting our gi nurse told me a

couple of days ago. My oldest son has suffered from unexplained

stomach pain for years. No tests show anything and we could not

figure out what was wrong. Slowly he began to eat less and less

complaining he was hurting so much on top of his already low

appetite. The docs though maybe it was a sensitivity disorder

causing him to feel any fullness in teh stomach as pain or was his

anxiety. Finally, he was given periactin to get him to eat more, and

boy did it worked. But the strange thing was we also began to see

less adn less of his stomach pain until it was gone, (he has

complained of it for years). The only time it may reoccur is the

times I have forgotten his meds and he begins to eat then suddenly he

doubles over in pain and even has a hard time sitting teh n I

remember I forgot to give it to him. His gi nurse told me that there

is something they call abdominal migraines that are not medical

diagnosis because there is not much known about them and it is not

studied, adn it depend on who you talk to, but the 'diagnosis' is

tossed around.. she said the preventative med they use for childhood

migraines is periactin (I had heard that before) and it would explain

what is going on with my son. childhood migraines run in my family,

my brother even had a strage sort which caused temporary paralysis

(diagnosed at children's hospital) and we didn't even know that was

possible. I was really facinated by this. My whole family and docs

have not been able to figure out what it is about periactin that has

stopped his lifelong stomach pain..

Just wanted to toss this info out to anyone who could use it.

- this is great info. As you know, Ian complains of his

belly hurting on and off since August. I'll be mentioning this to

my GI doc as a consideration for Ian - very interesting.

I'm sorry your son has experienced this discomfort - but, happy to

know you found something that works. Thanks again for sharing.
