Giving nightly shots - B and Mimi

B and Mimi,

As embarrassing as it is to say, I was in tears and total panic when Dr H

changed the plans on us at the Convention in 2004! I was all set to give

Bran the shots with the Genotropin pen. Wasn't happy about having to do it,

but had steeled myself to the fact that it HAD to be done.

THEN we saw Dr H, and she insisted that, as small as Bran was, we needed to

use the insulin syringes to get more " exact " dosing. If it hadn't been for

Jodi Z and Max, allowing me to do my first shot on Max (he was old enough

that he could tell whether or not I was doing ok, and he didn't scream at

the sight of the needle {that was good for the nerves, I was shaking enough

anyway! LOL}) I don't know what I would have done. Then, the following

night, Carmen gave us another syringe, and her Inject-Ease, and I did my

first shot on Bran. It all just gave me the extra confidence I needed,

knowing that if I was screwing up any of the steps, there was someone there

to back me up.

Now Bran can almost do his shots himself! LOL I draw the syringe, then load

and lock it into the Inject-Ease. I pinch up the skin, place the

Inject-Ease, and hold on to it while Bran pushes the button, and depresses

the plunger. It's over in no time at all and it is SO easy!!

Bran used to panic and fight every time we had to do his shot. I've found

that giving him the freedom to move, and some control over the situation,

has made the whole job easier. We also allowed him to play with the

Inject-Ease (empty of course) a LOT in the beginning, and the more he

practiced giving everyone else shots, the less he panicked about his own.
