Debbie,

I have really struggled this last year with weight gain. I was

so sure that it was something that i was doing wrong. My eating is by no

means perfect but it is certainly better then pre surgery. I did cut way

down on the carbs. I eliminated the sugar (an old habit I had taken back

up.) I recently discovered that I have a staple line disruption. Have

you been scoped recently? Might be worth looking into.

Debbie,

Some ppl may be busy due to the holidays but I'm hoping someone can answer

you that has been on prednisone. I am not knowledgeable enough to give you

advice as I have not had to take a drug that puts weight on me.

I can identify with your panic though over the weight gain.

I can sympathize with the weight gain and feeling out of control; I have

probably gained about 15 lbs. I'm not sure exactly how much, but clothes that

were once baggy are now fitting just right or just this side of tight. I can't

wear the tightest clothes I had at my lowest weight. I had surgery in June of

2001 and lost 160 total. I got down to 190 for about a minute, then stayed

around 194 for awhile. Then I started slacking off about going to the gym, and

I started eating more and more often and foods that tend to make me fat.

Essentially, my habits from pre-op have returned, but I still can't eat nearly

as much, and I can't tolerate ice cream anymore, which was a huge downfall for

me. I think that has stopped the weight from spiralling totally out of control,

that and my somewhat limited capacity. I am afraid to weigh myself, because

that usually sends me into fits of constant eating when I see the depressing

results. I just try to change my habits, and things start getting better. I

can usually start to feel the clothes loosening up...etc. Just feeling out of

control lately...AAARRGGGHH!!

Hi Debbie,

My heart goes out to you. That horrible nasty Prednisone, I just hate

the stuff. When I was 17 years old, I was put on it for an eye disease. I

was horribly anorexic and barely weighed 100 pounds, at 5f 7in. The day I

was put on it I had on a size 3 dress that was pretty loose. When my mom

took me back for a 2 week checkup, I insisted on putting the same dress on,

even though I had ripped the seams apart just putting it on. It was really

a horrible thing. I was starving myself and still gaining weight.

Those steroids can really knock you off center. Have you asked your dr

how long it will take them to get out of your system? You may just have to

detox from them and the weight will start coming off.

Do you have an eating plan that you try to follow? I do protein shakes to

help me get away from carbs and then try to limit my carbs on a daily basis.

Some days I win and some moments I lose. The important part is not to beat

yourself up for a slip, but just to get back with what works for you. I bet

you have developed some good eating habits along the way and that you can

look at the good things you do and just magnify them.

This is a great group, folks here will help you with advice and support.

Watch those nasty ole carbs (it's a trigger for me)

Hugs,

Joanie
