,

I don't know if reflux symptoms present themselves differently in young

children than in adults, but I was diagnosed with GERD a year ago and the

reason I went to the doctor in the first place was because I was having trouble

breathing. Asthma runs in my family and I had just relocated to a new climate

(Denver to Seattle) with new allergens, etc. and I thought maybe I developed a

case BUT it turns out that feeling as though you are not getting enough air in

your lungs can be one of the symptoms of reflux. The fact that Dasia is

gulping air may mean that the reflux is not completely contained. Like I said,

I'm not sure if the symptoms are different for young children, but it is one of

the symptoms for adult reflux. You might want to mention it to her doctor and

see what he/she says about it.

Hi

remeber with reflux medication, all it does is neutralize the acid

in the stomach, it does not stop whats in the stomach coming up into

the throat.

Although you may have stopped the acid burning Dasia, it will still

be coming up. This may be the cause of her deep breaths and

swallowing.

Liam does exactly the same thing, he is on prilosec and zantac. We

have worked very hard to get his rate of feed to a point where he

does not show these symptoms eg his pump can only go at 55mls

overnight and he can only have 150mls in an hour 3 x a day during

the day, if we try more he doesnt tolerate it.

The surgery Dasia had was that for a gtube because the gtube can

often exaserbate reflux.

Also how are her bowels, if Liam is constipated his reflux is worse

everything is slower stomach doesnt empty, more reflux.

Hope all this helps
