help! Need fats, calories, and have yellow feet

I need help. My 11 year old (asd)son has been on the SCD diet w/o dairy for 4

months. He is steadily losing weight, too much. He is 5'3'' and 106 lbs.

Height is going up, weight is going down. I went to a nutritionist for help

today. Basically, he needs more calories and more fat. I am not a great cook,

but I am cooking every day just about all day. Here is basically what he is

eating now, if anyone knows what maybe we can add to it to give him more

calories and fat?

*Grilled hamburgers, chicken, turkey and steak

*steamed broccoli, carrots, sugar snap peas, snow peas, zuchini, green

peppers, cucumbers, and asparagas.

* cooked green beans, lima beans, peas and carrots

*applesauce or pearsauce mixed with cooked acorn squash with some cinnamon.

*Water and once in a while watered down white grape juice (the juice can make

him aggressive)

*last 2 weeks he has been having squash buttons

He is taking supplements: nu thera, probiotic, vit. C, gaba, zinc, melatonin,

& cod liver oil

He is dairy free, but the nutritionist suggested adding ghee. I have to admit

I haven't read any ghee posts during our 4 months, because I assumed it

contained casien and he couldn't have it. Is there anything special about the

ghee I should know before trying it? She also suggested basting his meat in

olive oil.

Another thing I figured out last week was that I hadn't given him any salt at

all since November! I am now lightly salting his meat!

Last thing - I noticed tonight that the soles of his feet are turning

yellow/orange?

I am a little freaked out. Help?

hi lori,

i add good fat to audreys meet once it is cooked, just before i serve

it. this obviously adds calories and is more satisfying. simply

cook you meet in the usual way and add atleast a tsp or upto a tbl

spoon of olive / safflower / macadamia. coconut oil is great added

to scrambled eggs or if your lucky your child might take it straight

from the spoon... you can make a dip for vegies with some sort of

nut butter and that is full of good oils or try making the mayo for

dipping or spreading on meats.

the orange skin is called 'carotinaemia'. if you google the term you

will find lots of info - but basically it mostly occurs in children

with liver disease and other associated illnesses. the child digests

too many carrots in most cases (but also yellow and green vegies

containing carotene). the liver trys to detox so it flushes all the

toxins to the skin. alot of our kids need help processing the

chemicals found in food as well as the environment... audrey had a

pretty terrible case of it but i found it disappeared for her once i

got her on something for the liver (first i put her on milk thistle

and now she is on liver life). when we stopped supps recently the

orange skin came back!!! in theory, the epsom salt baths would help

too.
