Anyone have children that play with their food?

I need some help/advice. My two almost three year old boys go from one extreme

to the next. They either fuss and get upset and refuse to eat certain foods or

they have fun and play with their food. Either way, much of the meal ends up on

the floor. The only time they really eat without making a huge mess is if they

are extremely hungry. As it is, I have to sit with them and give them one bite

of food at a time. Otherwise, they really would have a hey day with a full

plate of food. I try to give them something to eat every few hours. Generally

they get three meals and two snacks per day and maybe four cups of extremely

diluted juice (2 ounces juice to 8 ounces of water). I put their vitamins in

about three cups of juice spread through the day.

They have poor fine motor skills and are sensory seeking. So, I know some of

it is fun for them to feel the texture of the foods in their hands and mush it

around. But how can we get away from this during meal time so that more food

goes in their bodies (where it is much needed) and less food every where else?

Thanks,

Dana
