SCD Diet vs Other Diet

We're still new to the SCD and continue to have questions. Thanks for all of the

helpful and speedy replies to date.

Here's a question that may get some criticism. Not trying to start any

negative discussions, just trying to gather information on diet that will best

help our son's symptoms. We fully understand this is a list devoted to SCD.

We're still confused about what to cook for a child (with autism) who has been

known to have an excessive amount of yeast overgrowth. No outward gut issues

for over 10 years.

We've been implementing the SCD for about 6-7 weeks. Probably 5 weeks at 100%

legal.

He has transitioned to all of the foods without too many problems.

We've seen no decrease in autism-like symptoms (sleep, behavior, attention,

mood). Not complaining, just an observation. We know it's still early on in the

diet.

Knowing now it's a yeast problem, we've done lots of reading, research.

Some folks on this list may be familiar with Dr. Bruce Semon. He's a child

psychiatrist and a nutritionist treating with autism using anti-yeast therapy

(One of his books: Feast without Yeast)

In brief, he believes that a child/adult with yeast should be treated with a

diet that varies from SCD. He also advocates for nystatin, possibly for long

periods of time.

His diet basically eliminates all fermented foods, nuts, casein, gluten, eggs,

apples, grapes. Very little meat, especially chicken.. Not a complete list.

The difference between the two diets, from what we can see, is that Dr. Semon

allows beans of many kinds (garbanzo), brown rice, potatoes and probably other

foods. We've only looked at the diet in an overview.

As usual, we're confused about the whole diet/yeast issue with regard to our

son.

One observation we have noticed is that when our son drinks either Welches

100% Grape Juice and/or Tropicana Pure Premium (both diluted with filtered

water) he seems more irritable, anxious. He's not a big fan of drinking just

filtered water but we continue to work on that.

Hoping not to be flamed here, just trying to get a better understanding of the

different diets and how they affect people with different or varying gut issues.

Thanks
