There's a Vitamin K protocall that you definitely should read up on. It's all

related to the oxilate issue. There should be numerous links in old posts to

the research about it because I know Patty has posted the link a zillion times.

You can deal with the oxilates much better by addressing this problem. Even

while you're reading up on it, you can get started with the first step by

starting your child on a high dose cod liver oil because you'll want to get a

base line of lots of Vit A and Vit D before you start the Vit K2. Green

Pastures makes a great quality cod liver oil.

oxalate crystals and SCD (a little long)

Sorry if I am covering something that has already been discussed...I

did go back and search through the old posts but I'm a little

confused and hope others may know more about oxalate crystals and

whether Caleb is experiencing a good thing or a bad thing.

Caleb is now 22mo and on day 13 of SCD. We went through the loose,

green stools, followed by seeing the hyphal form of yeast expelled,

and we are now onto sandy stools with black specks. After two days

of the sandy stools, he has a temperature. No other symptoms, just a

temperature.

After digging through past posts, I ended up finding a piece by

Costen Owens in regards to low oxalate diets. It was very

interesting and mentioned that the sandy stools could be a " dumping "

phase from the oxalate stuck inside cells (there would actually be

more in the urine). It also mentioned that the temperature could be

from a past infection that has been stuck in the body due to oxalate

crystals that formed around the cells of the previous infection, and

have now been released again. This author does recommend a low

oxalate diet and mentions that it can be done along with SCD.

So, have we by some chance shook up something while on SCD? Has

anyone else had experiences like this? Does anyone follow a low

oxalate diet as well? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

On the positive side...for anyone new to the diet, etc. Caleb had

the worst week ever on the first week of this diet. But, because of

the dramatic changes our Birth To Three coordinator has seen in the

past 2 months (GFCF first, now SCD), she has asked that we have him

re-evaluated to see where he is on the ASD sprectrum, vs our previous

diagnosis, which we recieved on February 8th (severe autism).
