Guest guest
A while ago our metametrix panel came back with a wildly elevated 5- HIAA, 160 in a ref range of 1-12. I went nuts about it, and then began to suspect that my son had stolen a piece of a banana before the blood draw and thought that since 5-HIAA is downstream of tryptophan metabolism that the banana was responsible. I just realized that the 5-HIAA level was from urine, not blood, collected overnight before the blood draw and the banana theft. This still might reflect food consumption, but that is such a hugely elevated number it must bear significance...but WHAT??? I know that serotonin is also in this pathway, but serotonin is not in this study. A previous GS urine test shows serotinin in normal range. ANY IDEAS? Is this a false positive? Thanks Karin
