Re: Allergic to the DOC Band?

I'm the mom of a prior DOC band kid with lots of allegies and eczema, so I hear

your concern. But, I doubt it's an allergic reaction to the foam just because

rashes are fairly common with any of the bands even for babies that don't have

allergies. Having something against your skin that doesn't breathe well and

traps in sweat is irritating. The trick is to stay on top of it with the tips

and Cheri mentioned. The goal is to keep the head and band as dry and

clean as possible. Wipe out the helmet with a dry towel to clean up sweat

throughout the day. Shampoo her hair and make sure it's totally dry before

putting the band back on. Try cleaning the band with alcohol 2x a day instead of

once and dry it in front of fan or with a blow drier on cool. Put 1%

hydrocortisone on any rashy areas. Good luck!

had zero complaints....until this evening (day 4). Initially, she took to the

Band very well, so well that we decided to go full throttle and keep it on 23

hours on Day 2. It was only this evening that she was squirmy at bath time. I

could not see anything on her head, no pink spots at all. Then after I dried her

off I noticed little teenie tiny red bumps on her forehead and left

eyelid...heat rash!

the band off until the rash disappears. My fear is that she is allergic to the

foam lining of her band. I am not only worried about her discomfort but feel as

though it is a small step backwards....the clock is ticking in terms of her

growth and we do not want to see her wearing it more than the 6-8 weeks they

guess-timated she'd need it.
