Guest guest
All:Does anyone know whether allergy shots for grasses contain gluten? I gather it might be unlikely, however I haven't been able to locate any information about whether the materials used to create immunization (particular grass pollens, for instance) might contain gluten. Also, I did read on one UK site for celiacs and allergies that immunization is *not* recommended for people with celiac disease. It wasn't clear to me why this might be, but I would like to know. This past year I had a migraine that lasted six months (having never had migraines prior to this time)--after numerous doctor's visits, medications, and tests with my regular physician, a neurologist, a dentist, etc., I finally went to see an allergist. The allergist indeed found very inflammed sinuses even though I had no overt sinus-related symptoms, and after beginning treatment, my migraines have gone away. The allergist has completed allergy testing and wants to start with a program of immunization shots based on this testing for grasses, trees, dust mites, mold, cats, and dogs. Given the fact that my immune system is already greatly compromized, I am understandably concerned about anything that will compromize it further. I have had one round of shots, which resulted in a headache and (possibly related?) symptoms that I had been exposed to gluten. I have had no changes to my diet or any other reason to explain the sudden onset of these symptoms.Any information would be helpful, as I would like very much to make an informed decision about how to continue treating my allergies.
