Beginning the journey

Not a frequent poster but certainly gaining a lot from you all, I now

have news to share as I begin this journey. I had my first appt.

with the obesity surgery center headed by Dr. Macura in Staten

Island, NY on Wed., Nov. 14th. It couldn't have gone better. The

staff is very well organized and quite pleasant. What I am really so

happy about is that so far, the first steps have been falling into

place so nicely that my peace of mind gets better and better. I was

able to see a pulmonologist yesterday (Thurs.), get a sleep study

appt. for Tues 11/20, an appt. for lung function testing on 11/23, an

upper endoscopy appt. for Thurs. 11/29. I already see a therapist

and they will accept his psych eval. I will attend a mandatory

support group meeting on Monday 11/19. My DH came with me and he

said he was impressed which is not a common occurrence for him. I am

hoping to have surgery in January. Dr. Macura's insurance person

said I have 'the best' insurance. It is NY State Health Insurance

Plan, aka The Empire Plan. Hospitalization is covered through BC/BS,

but medical-surgical is provided through United Health Care PPO. We

shall see.

I send positive energy and prayers to all of you who are presently

recovering and to those of you with upcoming surgery. And thanks to

those of you who sent such such good feedback when I first came out

of the lurkers' closet.
