Hello All,

First off - a big THANK YOU to Rohlfs for putting this event together. Having organized group events myself, I know full well how much time and effort goes into them.

Second - it was a pleasure to meet everyone. It is always nice to put faces to names, and to get to know a little bit more about each other.

The only real disappointment to me was the food - which is a sad thing for a luncheon. While I don't expect 5 star dining at a group luncheon, I won't be making any more trips to Maggiano's any time soon. I'm not sure what type of glue they used in the white cream sauce, but it reminded me of the white paste I use to use in grade school.... :-) I guess I was also a bit disappointed we didn't have any pizza. I was really looking forward to one baked in a real pizza oven again.

If you attended - what did you think?

Oh well.

Until next time.......

-patrick

Oh, I don't know, I liked the Alfredo bit. But I love alfredo (when I was a picky kid that was the one "grown-up" dish I would eat!) so it was a really rare treat for me. I thought that spinach dip was great. I was just merrily eating a mound of it with a fork and it only occurred to me after I finished that perhaps that's what the chips were for. Also, I was really impressed by the creme brulee. I wasn't really interested when I saw it on the menu. I took a serving to be polite, but I turned out to really enjoy it. It was chocolate, yes? Very nice, it made me rethink my priorities when it comes to creme brulee! But I think most of all the company I enjoyed was what made the meal altogether lovely! I posted on another board about the food, so maybe you saw that- but

I was pretty happy with it, myself. I really liked the spinach dip

and tomato mozarella salad, as well as the regular salad. I would

agree that the pasta was only so-so, although I liked the alfredo

more than the red sauce pasta (the vegetables were overcooked IMO).

[i can definitely make better pasta sauce myself!!] But, it's a

small thrill to get to eat pasta " out " - a first for me, actually. I

also enjoyed the salmon. The bread rolls were pretty good, although

I would have liked to try them with butter, and piping hot might

have been good as well (although understandably difficult). And the

creme brulee? REALLY GOOD! I loved it! However, I don't know how

great MLI would be at handling a celiac on a regular day so I

probably wouldn't go there on my own. But, I would definitely go to

another outing there! :D Pizza would have been cool, i guess, but

I'm holding out for Risotteria some day... *sigh* Pizza and a beer

and risotto... mmm...

It was our first time out since my daughter's

diagnosis....I was surprised to see that out of all

the people there, only 4 kids came! I'm guessing that

some of that is simply the cost of the meal...not

feasible if you have 3 little ones, etc.

For us it was a great opportunity just for her to meet

other celiac kids and people, and for me to ask a lot

of questions (to our table), and to have a meal

without having to ask " can she eat that " and without

having to cook it myself! Since she is tiny still and

doesnt eat much, needing to eat a lot of food was not

an issue...she was happy with just a few things!. The

rolls were fantastic (anyone know where to buy

them?)...I did get the guy's card, but havent called

yet. Just wondering if anyone has seen them at

Draegers, etc. She ate the red pasta (we had to

separate out the veggies), and the creme brulee. We

ate the salmon and chicken, and found both tasty. I

guess it all depends on your perspective, where you've

been, and your expectations.....I can see both sides.

I don't think he is selling the rolls commercially yet, but you can

arrange a special order by contacting him by email (or phone) and

having him leave them somewhere for you to pick up, like the

coffeeshop Spica in Mountain View. :)

I regularly call or e-mail Mike Goff and special order these yummy rolls

for my daughter and myself. They are so delicious warm with butter! I

have his card at home if you need his contact information. I wish he

would sell these rolls to the stores like he does his pizza crusts and

bread.
