I think it depends on the severity. I had heard that the younger the baby, the

more likely they will need 2 bands. I was concerned because my daughter was

just under 5 months old when she got her DOC band (almost 2 weeks ago) and my

insurance won't pay for it and I was worried about having to pay for 2. But the

PT working with her at CT said that she thinks she will only need 1 because her

case is moderate and not severe, and they think she will only need it for about

6-8 weeks. She told me this the day she got her band. She's had it a little

over a week, and at her 1st week check she's already made noticeable

improvement, even after having to have it off for 2 days due to a heat rash. So

I am very optimistic that she will just need the one band. I think it all

depends on the baby, how much correction they need and how quickly they respond.

At my daughter's consultation they told us they couldn't tell if she would need

1 or 2, and I think they do this because they don't want to be held to what they

say at the consultation. It is a little scary, especially if you are paying for

it all yourself, but I think in many cases you just have to wait and see.

Thanks for the response. At his consult, they wrote on the paper, " May benefit

from 2 bands given his head shape. " I'm really hoping we see enough correction

after one. We are paying out of pocket for the band because our insurance

wouldn't cover it.
