Theoretically, it should be related to growth. However, I think that it is more likely with both very young babies, who grow very quickly and older babies (really toddlers), where the 16-week time limit is reached before the band is outgrown.

I think that it is usually related to severity of the head and how close to perfect the parent wants to end at. We didn't do a doc band, but I am answering based upon what I have seen posted here in the last 18 months or so. 2 bands? Older or younger babies?

Is there any correlation with needing two bands with the age of the baby? My son will be 8 1/4 months old when he gets his first DOC Band.-Angie-
