Guest guest
I think it would be fine to wait. Six months is not too old to band by any means, and I think it's a good idea to get the tort and stretches under control before taking on the band as well. Just my opinion though. Go with your gut! Good luck! I think I agree with her but wanted other's opinions on this as maybe you've gone through this situation also. We were all set with 's scan tomorrow at CT and then getting his band next Friday but now I have put that off until the end of May in hopes his torticollis will get much better. Guest guest
A couple of points. Our pediatrician told us the exact same thing at our 4 months appt and it also gave us cold feet to the point where we also canceled out DSI appt set for the next day. We thought about it over the next week and my gut just told me that repositioning was not going to work and he was not going to 'round out' on his own. The pedi also told me that if I was worrying and stressing about it everytime I looked at his head to go ahead and get him the Band so I could start enjoying my baby. That advice is what gave me the confidence to move forward. We did have 1 failed DSI attempt because my son could not/would not hold his head up straight for the DSI but with aggressive PT he was in a Band at 4 3/4 months. I do not regret for a moment Banding him so young, even though we are now moving forward with Band # 2 (DSI is set for 2pm today!). Looking back, if 9 weeks in a Band didn't fix him all the way there is no way we would have gotten close to the results that we achieved (20 mm to 7 mm) with re-positioning or letting nature take its course. I also agree with everyone else about taking advantage of the huge growth spurts in the 4-7 month range. If CT thinks that you can get good results with the Band while working on the tort at the same time I would trust their opinion. Good luck with whatever you decide. > > My son had his 4 month check up today and the pediatrican recommended he wait to get the Band until 6 months and work on his torticollis first to get that better. Guest guest
Hi There, My ped and I had the same debate when my son was 3/5mos old and when I asked her what she would do...she said she would get it for her son...so we decided to go with the band and continue the PT...the asymettry can worsen even while you work to " resolve " the tort...we saw nice improvement both in this head shape and tort and we were fortunate his facial features hadn't been affected...but he went through a big growth spurt at 4.5mos and outgrew his helmet after 3 weeks and we just got another b/c he started to regress as the tort still hadn't let up...Hangar covered this helmet b/c it is highly unusual for a child to outgrow a helmet in 3 weeks. Our son is 8 mos. old now and after some aggressive PT, his tort is 95% gone...and we have him in another helmet to help his head shape and hopefully w/in a couple of months we will be in good shape... I really believe the sooner you get the helmet the better...but with the wee ones...you are increasing your chances of needing two helmets...(depending on your child's size). > > My son had his 4 month check up today and the pediatrican recommended he wait to get the Band until 6 months and work on his torticollis first to get that better. Guest guest
Koodos to your pediatirican. Also, koodos to Hanger for doing that. They definately did not have to. Wow - 3 weeks to outgrow a Hanger band - I haven't even heard of that with the doc bands. That must have big one big growth spurt. Guest guest
My ped will pretty much let me do what I think is right. She's a great ped as she diagnosed our son at 1 month with plagio (well sent us to get x-ray after his 1 month check up since she knew something was wrong). I think I was just more nervous than anything to do it at this moment and I really do want to work on his torticollis before banding him. My husband and I officially decided to do it in May a few weeks before he turns six months so at least he's still in the right time frame of 4-7 months of getting the band and we are definitely going with CT as my insurance will not cover anyone anyway so we just want to go with our gut and go with CT. I can't wait to get his band now since I've read that so many babies have had improvement in just a few weeks.
