Guest guest
My baby will be a year in two weeks and we just got a Hanger helmet a little over a month ago. Mine was the opposite though - a little loose. They put a little foam insert in the back to tighten it but if she really wants to she can still pull it off. Luckily she only does it maybe once a day and if I give her a 10-15 breather she is fine with me putting it back on. However, I did ask my orthotist how to know if it is gets too tight and she said look carefully for red/irritated areas. When it starts to get too tight they will show up and then go away and for me to come in for her to have a look then to try to catch before they get so bad it stays red/irritated. I hope all goes well for you! We are really happy b/c we have already seen an improvement in the 4 weeks she has had it and with her being older we were cautioned it may take a while and not improve as much. Hers is not really several just had a bad flat spot since about 4 months... The Hanger group insist it is not hurting him and it needs to be tight, they shaved a little off the sides, i think just to appease me. I think I just need a little reassurance that we are doing the right thing. My son, Tanner has Mod. to Severe Plagio. by the neurosurgen, our peditrian did not want us to get the helmet, she wanted us to try the therapy and repositioning, the therapy is helping the Torticollis but the repositioning is not working. I think that is making me worried as well that she is not behind us. The therapist, neurosurgen & my husband & I all feel this is the best thing, but w/o her backing us, i am second quessing my decision. I'm hoping you guys can comfort my nerves. It is really making it hard for me to concentrate at work, plus I think he has an ear infection and is cutting teeth, poor little fella. Guest guest
My neurosurgeon didn't really support my decision to band my daughter, but my pediatrican did. In the end my neurosurgeon gave me a referral to get her banded because I am the parent and her father and I felt as though it would be the best decision. We got ours from hanger as well and so far I love it!Grace,Sent from my iPhoneOn Jun 28, 2010, at 1:16 PM, Marissa <marissaevans7@...> wrote: My baby will be a year in two weeks and we just got a Hanger helmet a little over a month ago. Guest guest
Can the baby take it off without loosening the velcro? If so, I would be worried that it truly is too loose. I can't imagine that it is holding anywhere if it is this loose. Guest guest
Traci, This is your son and not your peditrician's. You have to do what you feel is right for your child and not worry about what others think. Who is going to be the one that has to answer to him when he's a teenager and has a "crooked head?" He will blame you for not fixing it when you had the chance. Don't worry. You are doing the right thing. Guest guest
Thanks , You are right and he really doesn't seem to be bothered by it at all. > > Traci, This is your son and not your peditrician's. You have to do what you feel is right for your child and not worry about what others think.
