Guest guest
Hi Sue, I worked in the food industry for a short time and I believe the company that supplies french fries to Mcs is JR Simplot. Can't remember where they're located but they're here in the U.S. Suki On 2/8/06, Hersom, A. <susan.hersom@...> wrote: > > > > Good morning to all! However, the french fry manufacturer states to Mcs that all wheat protein is taken out of the oil before the french fries are " par-fried " in it. Then the fries are shipped to Mcs where they are fried in their g-f oil. I insisted that I needed to know the name of the french fry manufacturer to ask more questions. " Jim " took my name and phone number for a follow-up call from Mcs. If anyone else is interested in calling Mcs to voice their concern, their phone no. is 1-800-244-6227. > > The only other point I made was that there were tens of thousands of celiacs in the United States that dine at Mcs with their families and that I believed this constituted a fair amount of business for Mcs. > > Geez, another comfort food taken away for now - however, I have discovered Kinnikinnick's Ktoos chocolate sandwich cookie that tastes just like an Oreo - I honestly would not be able to tell the difference between the cookies. Guest guest
Thank you, Suki. I just sent this company (Simplot) an e-mail asking them if they sell their frozen fries to Mcs, and if so, to verify if wheat flavoring is in the oil they " par-fry " the fries in. I also asked if this is indeed true if they could explain the method of removing the wheat from the oil so that no wheat protein remains. Their answer should be interesting, and I will share it when I receive it.... Guest guest
Thanks, Sue. It will be interesting to see what you find out. However, I feel Mc's should be held responsible for allowing gluten and dairy in its french fries. I don't care who the supplier is. I went to the web site, saw the allergen warning on french fries myself, and promptly filled out the comment form. I can't wait to see how they respond (beyond the form acknowledgment). DebbieP.S. And Mc's thought "Supersize Me" was a problem! This week they're learning about the power of the celiac community. On Feb 8, 2006, at 2:56 PM, Hersom, A. wrote: Thank you, Suki.
