Hi,

I am so excited to have found this site- thanks so much for all the helpful

information! I am hoping to get some opinions on whether or not I should put my

7 month old son in a DOCband. We have an appt for imaging at cranial tech on

Monday, but I am still not completely convinced. Both my pediatrician and a

cranial facial specialist say that banding is very common but I have to be

honest I have only ever seen one child with a helmet...and I live in a town with

tons and of babies!! I posted a couple pics in the photos section under an

album labeled " mommyshan " . Let me know what you think!

Thanks-

Hi ,I had never seen a band before my daughter was referred for one myself. My friends kept telling me now that I am aware of it I will see many. I still have only seen them when I am at CT for her appts. She has had it a week and half now. However, it has been so much easier than I imagined. Strangers are very sweet and some aren't afraid to ask about it in a pleasant way. I did get one strange question but, whatever! I think decorating it with some cute decals helps as well. Adds a little fun to it. And the time is going to go so fast, I already forget she even has it on!Good luck!Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone with SprintSpeedFrom: "mommyshan" <shannon_swiatek@...>Date: Fri, 26 Feb 2010 13:38:55 -0000<Plagiocephaly >Subject: Should I band? Hi ,

I looked at the pics of your son. Does he have brachy? Banding is common. I

know what you mean about not seeing too many banded babies around though. It is

only after my son got his band a lot of people come up to me and say that their

son/daughter had one in the past.

I decided to get a band for my son because I was very uncomfortable with the way

his head looked. It bothered me every time I looked at him. The whole process is

easy though if you know you are doing the right thing for your child.

satisfied with the outcome), DocBand started 1/18/10 )

Thanks! Yes he has brachy, we go for the Dsi tomorrow. I have to say I feel

like he has gotten alot better over the last month. We had our initial eval

1/25...just took me this long to decide. Do you know if they re-check the

measurements and give you the numbers when they do the Dsi? Thanks-

,

I can't say for sure if they will do the measurements again since we did the

evaluation and the DSI on the same day. You can always just ask them to

remeasure. Explain that you want to see if there has been some natural

improvement from repositioning or whatever other treatments you might be trying

with you son.

Good luck tomorrow!

I just looked at the pics, I do think your child would benefit from the band.

Its a very personal decision weather to do it, for me my sons head bothered me

too much not to do it while I could correct it. I did worry a bit about him

wearing the band, I don't recall ever seeing a baby with a band befor or if I

did I had no idea what it was for. For us the band turned out to be no big deal

at all, no one cared about it, and it went by really fast, good luck

Since you can't go back later and change your mind, I would say just do the

band. Fix it then you can forget all about the whole thing. Don't fix it, and

there's a chance you'll constantly be looking at your sweet baby as he grows up

to see if its still there.

As far as people approaching us in public, mainly it's Moms who have a plagio

kid at 5 or 6 years old who didn't do the helmet and wish they had. They seem

very sad, regretful. I also was approached once by an woman who said she had

really flat head that always bothered her and wished her Mom had the option of a

helmet back then.

You might see if you can meet up with other Plagio Moms from this website once

you get your helmet. Traveling in groups helps if you are approached and just

don't feel like talking about it. :)
